The short story Change the World by Changing Me is about Bayazid who is also the storyteller, he outlines the case in which he did not fully understand his need to change until it was too late. He wants to change the world and those who come in contact with him which are his family and his friends. He focuses on the negative things and/or the pessimistic way of life. He focuses on the evil things in the world and the bad ways of living of the people. He didn’t realized until he was too old and his days are numbered big changes that happened and still happening in this world begins in a change in an individual, in his own self, within him. It begins in summarizing his goals, and then pursuing those goals with a positive attitude, and then personal values as the guiding base. The story really teaches us a moral lesson and there’s no question about that but after you read the story there is one question that will pop-up in your mind. That is why most of the people try to change the order of the world instead of searching a way of improving ourselves? There is a story I’ve read in a magazine a long time ago, it’s about an old man who speaks in front of many people in a workshop. He is witty although ha has a pessimistic way of expressing his perceptions which attracts the attention of the participants. With a bitter tongue he critizes the government for its uncompromising way of acting and manipulating of the human resources. His attack is not connected in the workshop and is directed outside. The consequences of his actions are, first he consolidates the conviction about his own impotence in the case. Second, he finds the confirmation for his black, pessimistic visions in the dialogue with the participants, which agree with his opinion. Third, he did not see the possibility of changing the situation through the individual acting. Lastly, he deprives himself the possibility of creating , satisfying his expectations, conditions of life. The given stories are telling us only one lesson and that is if you want the world to change we must first start to change ourselves and then we may influence others like our families and our friends. A change within ourselves is the most basic step if we want big changes to happen. Changes in ourselves is about the development in a person , which once developed , allows a person to apply himself or herself more completely and effectively to life. It plays a primary role in determining the way in which individuals perceive their circumstances, and live their lives.
