Ambassador Indyk served in the Clinton administration from its first day in January 2003 until mid-June 200 I, when he left the administration. He is now the Director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution, in Washington D.C. Indyk's first two years in the Clinton administration were as the Senior Director for the Near East at the National Security Council. He then served as U.S. Ambassador to Israel from spring of 1995 to the middle of 1997. In September 1997, he became Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East, serving until January 2000. He then returned as Ambassador to Israel until June of 2000. (U)
