MEMORANDUM TO: MR. ALFREDO CARLOS JR. FROM: ARGEL T. CRUZ SUBJECT: A PROBLEM OF TARDINESS DATE: JULY 21, 2007
1.0 Problem of the Case
The problem of the case is the tardiness of Mr. George Douglas.
2.0 Areas of Consideration
The root cause of Douglas’ tardiness is for the reason that he is a widower and has six children, whom he sends off to school every day before going to work. Although that he compensates to what he is losing in the morning, it is not enough because the work done in the morning is different, compared to the afternoons. For example, as stated to the problem, one Tuesday morning, he was holding up an assembly project, although he will again, compensate
to what time he has lost, it can’t be helped because the material should be dried out before leaving the department.
3.0 Alternative Courses of Action
I prefer that Douglas should hire a driver, which who will send his children to school. He should also hire a house helper, to recompense to what a mother should do, so that he will not be always rushed in the morning.
If he will do hire these people, security risks might be at stake, because he doesn’t fully know who the persons really are. They might be lackadaisical and not fully take care of the children, prone for kidnapping, because their family is foreign from this country.
I also suggest that Lloyd Dauden should fire Douglas because it is not an excuse that he sends his children off to school and to the baby sitter. He can compensate this dilemma by doing these tasks in an earlier time. Maybe there are still other workers that are more deserving than Douglas.
I prefer my first option because it is practical nowadays. Although there is a risk, it should be taken because everything in life has risks embedded on it.
