Scene 1 Lights Up - Willis Flood and Charon are onstage. Flood is bent over an entanglement of wires. Charon stands over him, looking on disapprovingly. Charon: (Looking to the sky) “The greatest preachers need no pulpit.” (Turns to look at Flood) You don’t think this is a bit much, do you? (Pauses, Flood carries on with what he’s doing) No, I didn’t think so. Flood: (Muttering to himself) Nearly done. Charon: You realize you’re going to cause a panic. There’ll be riots, people will get hurt. Flood stands back. Flood: This is it. Our moment. We’re going to inspire the minds of the people. Scare them into action. If they can’t see the damage their doing. I’ll use my own hands to open their eyes. Their going to see tonight. I’m going to force them to witness the world as it is, dark and treacherous. Charon: You’re just in your own little Dungeons and Dragons world aren’t you? Flood bends down to resume working on the wires. He cuts the main power cable. Flood: Done! Blackout. Scene 2 We can hear sirens, car alarms, breaking glass. The city appears to be in chaos. We can see blue lights and flames in the distance. Lights up - Flood runs onstage, panicked but exhilarated. Charon follows him on calmly. He looks around the stage. Flood: Holy shit! Look what I did! It’s happening. What’s happening? This is happening! I can’t believe it. I better believe it, they better believe it. It’s time. Something’s going to happen. (Shouts to the street) Are you ready!? From Offstage Eliza Waits shouts. Waits: Are you ready!? Charon: Sounds like you’ve got competition. Elijah Waits comes onstage, followed by his band of fundamentalists. Sarah, Jacob, Ruth and David.
Waits: Are you ready? Charon: Ready for what? Waits: Gabrielle’s horn is ringing through the heavens. Bringing down the message for our humble ears here on earth. Judgment day is upon us. Sarah: Who will be the first to put themselves in the service of God? Jacob: Who will come forward for absolution? Ruth: This is a test from our Holy master. The time has come to show your allegiance. To the indulgencies of this world or the sublimities of the next. David: Come, brothers and sisters. Join us. Judgment awaits. Charon: (Quietly to himself) What the hell is this. Flood: What the hell is this? Waits looks at Flood contemptuously and ignores him. Waits: Sarah, go and save the souls of those on the south side. Jacob, leave and enlighten the people in the east. We must not neglect those in the north. Ruth, this shall be your task. And David, go forth and appeal, in the west there are hearts to be won. I’ll begin preparations for our departure. Sarah, Jacob, Ruth and David nod solemnly to Waits and leave with a flourish of their cloaks into the darkness. Waits: Brother, your face betrays a weakness. Let me lend you strength. Take my hand and I will lead you to eternity. Flood: (Affronted) What do you think I am? A monkey? You won’t poison me with your sycophantic lies. Charon: Now that’s just going to make him angry. Waits: How dare you question your Lord’s word! Charon: See. Waits: Your lack of contrition will be your undoing. Do you not understand that this is the day you will be tested? What will you do when standing in front of the gates and
confronted by Saint Peter? Flood: (Flood rolls his eyes) It’s like Sunday school all over again. (Pauses to scrutinise Waits’ expression) Are you proud to worship a story book? Your entire sake of being is a farce, a folk tale. There is no God, no pearly gates and no Saint Peter! Just jack. During the ensuing argument, Phil Hemp enters onstage looking bewildered. Flood: The world was not created in seven days… Waits: (Interrupting) How can you question a divine intervention? Look around you, this was an act of God. Flood: This wasn’t an act of God. It’s an act of protest. I did this, I created this panic to show people that we have to act. Waits: How dare you claim to be God’s messenger. You debauched vermin, you’re nothing but a ghost, condemned to wander when the rest of us are saved. Hemp: Whoa man. We’re in deep shit. Flood and Waits turn to face Hemp for the first time since his entrance. Charon: Oh here we go, another philosopher. Waits: And you are? Hemp: Just a wanderer. Go by the name Phil Hemp, if that’s of any importance. I don’t suppose anyone’s got a light? Waits: (Preaching again) There is no light! Only darkness awaits for those lost souls who shun God’s word. Hemp: That’s disappointing. Waits: (Incredulous at Hemp’s disregard) Dis...Disappointing! Hemp: Calm it man. I was only joking. You know, trying to make light of the situation. (Smiles wryly, looks to Flood and back) Nobody, no? Ok. Charon chuckles. Flood suddenly snaps. Flood: This is not a joke! If we don’t act now, it will be our actions, and our actions alone which will be the end of humanity. We our nothing but puppets, puppets who have been tugging at the strings and now find ourselves hanging by a thread. Hemp: Where did that come from, what are you on about?
Flood: Global Warming! The effect of greenhouses gases in our atmosphere, the greenhouses gases that we create! Hemp: Oh bollocks. Not you as well? Global warming is bullshit, it’s just fear mongering through the media and the government to make people think that they care. It’s just another way to block aspiration, to make us all run around like sheep and listen to every bullshitting lie they spit at us next. Waits: This is not global warming, this is a sign from God. Do you think such a puny thing as a man could create such upheaval? Flood: Yes. Because I created this upheaval. And I did it in ten minutes flat. Hemp: You did this because of Global warming? Flood: Yes. It’s a protest, to make people see the wrong of their ways. Charon: You’re starting to sound like him. Hemp: You did all this, just on the hope someone would interpret it correctly? Flood: Yes. Hemp: You’re insane. Charon: I agree. Liana Rice enters looking frightened. She stands at the edge of the group looking around her surroundings feverishly. Charon goes and stands behind her, his presence intimidating. Waits: You truly did this? Flood: Yes. Waits: Then you have joined us. You gave the message from the heavens that the people must return to God in humility. Flood: Don’t bracket me in with you. I’ll have nothing to do with your kind. Waits: But God has chosen you as his instrument. Flood: I make my own choices. I have complete control of my actions. I don’t look to some fictional deity to tell me his bidding.
Hemp: No, your deity is flesh and blood. You’ve been brainwashed exactly like she has. (Points to Waits) You’re scared of each other, both terrified of being the other person. You don’t understand. There is no such thing as God or global warming. We each have the right and the ability to chose our own path in life, there is no ultimate being or cause. And the world is not in a state of peril. This earth has been fluctuating in temperature since it’s creation. We’ve always been in a state of tumult. And the cause? Livestock flatulence. Cow’s farting. You see, our actions are our own, in the same way that they have no great importance. Flood and Waits look affronted. The three of them stand glaring at each other. Liana stands on the outskirts looking terrified. Suddenly looters run on stage. They run through the middle of Flood, Waits and Hemp, across the stage and knock over Liana. Scene 3 Liana: Aaah! Chantelle grabs a hold of Liana and roughly pulls her to her feet. Sandy: Ok everyone, listen up. This is a shakedown, we want all your money and valuables. Just put them on the ground in a pile and then step back. You do things right and no one gets hurt. (She grins menacingly at Liana who begins to cry) Waits turns to run but Bruce is to quick for her, grabs and her and throws her back into the crowd. Bruce: Not today sister. Now just do like the lady says and this will be easy. Chantelle: No fair. You said I’d get to beat on someone. (Liana whimpers still in her grasp) Shut it girly. Sandy: Calm it. I know what I said, but we need the money first. If one of them doesn’t do it, then you can beat on them. But for just now, just follow orders, alright? Chantelle: (Grudgingly) Alright. (She loosens her grip on Liana but still holds her.) Bruce: All of you, take out your wallets and phones and chuck them on the ground. Hemp goes to comply but Flood stops him. Bruce: I said gimme your wallets. Flood: Hold on a second. Why the hell do we have to do what you say? Chantelle: Because if you don’t, I’m going to snap her pretty little neck.
Liana: No. (Begins to cry again) Sandy: Shut up. I’m not kidding. Now give me your wallets and phones. Waits: Now come on. Let’s talk this through. If you just let me go, I can help you! (Sandy scoffs) No, seriously! You just need to let me go. If I can just leave, I’ll go and fetch my people, and, we’ll, um, help you. Sandy: No one is leaving here until I get everyone’s damn wallets! Now sit down and shut up! Waits’ sits. Hemp: Here man take it. (Holds his wallet out to Sandy, Bruce grabs it off him) It’s only money man. It’s not important. (Pauses) Look at us, why are we fighting? We should help each other. Waits: I offered to help… Hemp: Not like that you prat. I mean like, this is special. The lights are out, hell it’s almost romantic. Liana bursts into uncontrollable tears. Liana: Hugh! Sandy: Shut her up! Chantelle: I’m trying! Shut it, or, or… Liana: (Through her tears) Or what? Chantelle: This you snivelling little bitch. (She backhands Liana who is silent) Flood: Enough! (He runs to Liana and throws Chantelle off of her) No ones giving you anything. Hemp: I… Flood: Except you! (Looks irate) This is ridiculous. This isn’t who you are, none of us are criminals. Charon + Waits: Ha! Flood: What?
Waits: Nothing, just it was said like a true Samaritan. Flood: And? Waits: You seem to be forgetting that apparently this whole blackout is your doing. Of course, I guess in your world that isn’t seen as illegal is it? It’s all for the greater good. Sandy: You put the lights out? Charon: He did indeed. I was there, saw him do it. This whole sorry mess is his doing. Flood: What of it? Sandy: Nothing. Just impressed is all. Waits: It’s nothing to be impressed by. It’s just thoughtless vandalism. Nothing more. Flood approaches Waits who still sat on the ground begins to hurriedly try to crawl away. Flood: This isn’t vandalism! It’s a protest! Waits: A protest! All you’ve done is cause chaos. What good could possibly come out of this. Waits now to her feet, and Flood begin to circle each other threateningly. The three looters watch on shouting words of encouragement. Charon looks on with a look of slight amusement as Liana and Hemp try to find cover. Ted Brown enters onstage and blows her whistle. Brown: Hold it! What’s going on here then? Charon: I smell trouble. (He looks across to Flood) Waits: Oh officer. Thank heavens you’re here. These bandits have been trying to rob us. Hemp: Trying to…? Brown: Theft eh? Hmm, well we can’t be having that. Sandy: She’s lying officer. Liana: No she’s not. They tried to rob us, and that one (Points to Chantelle) hit me. Brown: Looks like a nasty bruise. No doubt you’ll live though. All the same, I’ve got some people in the area, I’ll get them to come and have a look at it. (Into walkie-talkie)
Val, this is Ted, do you copy? We’ve got a code 6 breach here I’d like you to come and have a look at. Our positioning is Echo 3, 2, 8. Over. Valerie: (Through radio) Roger that. Approaching you now. Brown: You’ll be sorted in no time love. Now for you lot. (Turns to face the looters) Theft is a serious business, and even in these extreme circumstance can’t be taken lightly. I’m afraid you’ll have to come to the station. Waits: Yes. Ha-ha. Brown: If you’ll just step back please Ma’am and I can take their details. Valerie, Francis, Wendy and Keith enter and approach Liana. Valerie: You’ll be the injured party then? Liana: What? Oh, yes. Valerie: It doesn’t look to bad, slightly inflamed but it won’t scar. Francis could you pass me an ice pack please. Francis: Here you go. Liana: Ooh, that stings. Wendy: I’ll go check on the others with Keith. Keith: Alright sir. Do you mind if I just check for injuries? Flood: Um, sure. Keith: Does this hurt? (Flood shakes his head) Ok, how about this? Flood: Nope, I’m all good. Keith: You don’t look it. Looks like you’ve been in a scrape or two. Something you’re not telling me? (Keith indicates to Flood’s filthy appearance) Flood: There’s a, um, some rubble, been knocked from a building or something, um, back there. Must’ve just picked up some of the dirt. Yeah, that’ll be it. Keith (Not entirely convinced) Alright then. Wendy: No injuries then?
Hemp: No. Wendy: You seem slightly dazed? Hemp: All the lights in the city have gone out, aren’t you? Wendy: I get your point. Ok, well your fine. Just look after yourself. Hemp: Will do Ma’am. Waits: Excuse me; I don’t suppose you could check my back could you? Those thugs threw me to the floor; I’m a little worried about it. Wendy: Well sure, but you’re walking fine. I’ll just apply pressure to it and you say ouch if it’s tender. (Presses various parts of Waits’ back but she doesn’t respond) That didn’t hurt? Waits: No. Wendy: Well, you seem to be fine. If it gets sore in the next couple of days pop to see your doctor and they’ll sort you out no doubt. Waits: Thanks. Better safe than sorry right? Wendy: Too true. Francis: Nothing too serious. A few bumps and bruises, but apart from that. Liana: Thank you. Francis: You on your own? Liana: Look’s like it. I was supposed to be meeting my boyfriend, but he didn’t show up. Francis: Well I suggest you go home. Not safe to be out at night, a young girl like yourself. Especially with all the lights out. Valerie: We’ll walk you home as soon as we finish up here. Make sure you get in safely. Liana: Oh no, really I’ll be fine. Francis: We insist. It’s our job to look after you. Liana: Well, ok. Thank you. Keith: Tiffany?
Brown: Alright Keith? Nearly finished here, what can I do for you? Keith: There’s a guy over there. The one who’s a bit grubby, yeah well he’s a bit shady about how he got in such a mess. Thought you might want to check it out. Brown: Thanks for the chin up. It’ll probably be nothing, but I’ll check him out. Keith: Alright then. Well, everyone else is fine, so unless one of these menaces has any complaints, we’ll be off. Brown: I’m sure they’re all just dandy. Hugh Knight enters looking flustered. He catches sight of Liana and hurriedly rushes over. Hugh: Hi, sorry I’m late. (He sees the bruise on her cheek) What happened? Who are these people? Liana: This is Valerie and Francis. They’ve been looking after me. Hugh: Wha…Why do you need looking after? Francis: Liana’s been in the wars a bit. Hugh: I can see that! But can someone please tell me what happened!? Liana: What happened was you didn’t show up on time and I was left standing here on my own and got attacked by some psycho bitch trying to rob everyone! Valerie: Well I can see you’ll be able to handle this perfectly well on your own. You sure you don’t want company home? Liana: No. I’ll be fine now. But thanks so much for helping me. Francis: Our pleasure. Come on troops. All done here. Keith: Catch you back at the station Tiffany. Wendy: Remember go to the doctors if you’re back gets sore. Valerie, Francis, Keith and Wendy exit. Hugh: Right. Now they’re gone, you going to explain calmly what happened to you? Liana: Calmly! I am calm!!
Hugh: You’re quite clearly not. Look, you don’t need to shout at me to show off for your little friends… Liana: Showing off! Hugh, you insensitive bastard! I was attacked, and you should have been here to help me! Instead I had to be looked after by some strangers. Hugh: I was only ten minutes late. Liana: You shouldn’t have been late at all. Where have you been? Hugh: It took me longer to get ready because the powers gone out. Liana: I should’ve known. Always looking after number one. Hugh: Liana please. Calm down. (He takes her hands in his) I’m really sorry. It must have been really shitty to have gone what you went through and I should have been here. But from now on, I shall endeavour to be ten minutes early every time we arrange to meet. Ok? Liana: I’m still pissed off with you. Hugh kisses her lightly on the cheek and she shows a small smile. Charon who was floating around the couple gets distracted when Delores enters. Charon: Oh dear. You do not look happy. Delores: (Noticing the three looters being questioned) What happened here? Hemp: Nothing much. Just the usual. He admitted to causing the blackout, she kept on telling us the world was ending and we better repent yada yada yada. Oh, and then those three came in and tried to rob us. Delores: How horrible. The world is so dark. Hemp: It would be, the lights have gone out. Delores: Yeah funny. No but, everywhere is just depressing. There’s no happiness left in the world. Hemp: Well you’re just a bundle of fun. Charon: Sounds like my kind of girl. Hemp walks away from Delores leaving her to stand awkwardly on her own.
Brown: Alright then. I’ve got all your details. If you’ll just turn round so I can put some cuffs on you, we’ll head down to the station as soon as the van arrives. Sandy: We’re not going anywhere. Brown: You’ve been behaving nicely so far, don’t ruin it now by acting up. Chantelle: You heard her, we ain’t moving. Brown: If you don’t come quietly, then I’ll just have to take you with force. Sandy: I’d like to see you try with three of us. Brown: I warned you. Ted grabs Sandy’s arm and begins to twist it round so she’s facing away. Seeing her chance Chantelle ducks under Ted’s arm and begins to make a break for it, but Ted is too quick. She takes out her gun and shoots after Chantelle to stop her from running. Chantelle stops but at the same moment the bullet hit’s the fuel tank of a parked car. The car explodes and Chantelle is thrown to the ground. The crowd begins screaming. Sandy and Bruce run across to their injured friend. Charon walks slowly across to them. Sandy: (Screaming at Ted Brown) You shot her! Brown: I didn’t! I swear, I never shot her. It must’ve been the car. Oh shit. Bruce: Chantelle? Chantelle can you hear me? Please say something? (Chantelle groans) She’s alive! Sandy, she’s alive. Sandy: Chantelle! Are you ok? Are you hurt? Chantelle: (Quietly) My side. Bruce: Oh shit. Sandy it’s bleeding. Charon: It’s bleeding heavily. (Smiles) Liana: Apply pressure to it. Delores: Does it hurt? Dying. Does it hurt? Sandy: Shh. It’s fine. You’re going to be fine Chantelle. (Screaming at Brown again) Go and get some help then! Brown: Right, just stay there. I’ll radio for some help.
Flood: Don’t move. (Flood takes a gun from his waistband, Liana and Delores start screaming again) Brown: Oh crap. Sandy: Shoot him! Brown: I can’t. Sandy: Why not! You shot her! Brown: I didn’t, I shot the car. Anyway, that’s not the point. I can’t shoot him because I only had the one bullet. I’m a beat cop, I don’t usually need my gun. Flood: Shut up! No one move. This has gone too far. Charon: I did say it’d go wrong. Flood: You, put your gun and your radio on the ground. No ones radioing for help. Bruce: But she’ll die! Chantelle: I don’t want to die! Flood: I said shut up! If she dies, so what. (Chantelle begins to cry) I’m not getting caught. For all I know there’s a price on my head now for what I’ve done and I’m not going inside for doing some good. Waits: You call this doing some good. Ha, you’ve just . . . Flood: Shut the fuck up! Waits’ shuts up. Liana: Hugh, I’m scared. Hugh: So am I baby. It’s going to be ok though. I love you Liana. Liana: (Distractedly) I love you too. Hugh: No, look at me. I mean, I love you. More than anything. Liana: What’s brought this on? Hugh: Nothing. I just. I don’t know, after what’s happened, and, I mean look at you. You needed me and I wasn’t here for you.
Liana: So what? You feel guilty? Hugh: Stop being so difficult please. God it’s so hectic. Liana: We’re being held at gunpoint by some crazy eco terrorist. It’s hardly going to be serine. Hugh: Hey! Flood: What? Hugh: Will you please just be quiet for two minutes? Flood: Why should I listen to you? Hugh: Look. I just want two minutes of peace and quiet to talk to my girlfriend. She’s shaken up. We’re not planning anything, we’re not going to run. I just want five minutes to calm her down. Please. Flood: Alright. But you make a run for it, I’ll catch you and I’ll shoot her in front of you. Hugh: I promise, no funny business. Liana: Are you insane? He has a gun and you just reason with him! Hugh: It worked didn’t it? Will you please just listen to me. Liana: What is it Hugh? Hugh: I know you’re pissed off with me. But I meant what I said. I love you more than anything, and I should’ve been here to protect you. I want to protect you. Liana: Hmm. Hugh: I want to protect you for life. I want to make sure that something like this never happens again. (Hugh gets down on one knee) I was going to do this when we got to the restaurant, but it looks like we’re not going so, um, Liana Rice, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife? Liana: Oh my god! Hugh: Well? Liana: Yes! Of course, oh Hugh! Yes!! (Hugh lifts up Liana into a tight hug)
Hugh: (Looking into her eyes) I love you. Liana: I know. I love you. (They hug) Charon: Oh jeez. It’s enough to make you sick. Flood: Alright, break it up. Party’s over. Brown slowly approaches Flood with her hands raised as a gesture of good will. Brown: Hey. Flood: Don’t come any closer. Brown: Ok. What’s your name? Flood: You don’t need to know my name. Brown: Alright. Look, that girl is really hurt. She’s losing a lot of blood. Charon: She’s going to die soon. Brown: (Continues uninterrupted) If you’ll just let me radio in for some help we can take her away and get her seen to. Flood: No. No one leaves. Brown: We’ll all stay here. I just want to make sure she’s ok. Please, if you’ll just let someone come and take care of her. They can even stay here. Flood: No. No one else. No one comes, no one leaves. Brown: Please be reasonable! Flood: You want me to be reasonable? I’ll be reasonable! I’ll shoot you all! I have a reason to! Who should I shoot first. You? No. Too easy. I’ll leave you here with the gun. Knock you out before I go. Brown: Please, think about this… Flood: Oh I am. Maybe I should shoot the Jesus freak. He came here prepared to die. Waits: Not to die. To be saved. I don’t want to die. Please. Flood: What about you? Think you should go to save the rest of them?
Hemp: Hey. I’m no hero. Look man, just calm down alright. We can sort this out. Flood: Oh I’m perfectly calm. I’m seeing things perfectly. Ok then you. You look like your on death's doorstep already. Charon: Knock knock. Who's there. Delores: Go on then. Flood: What? Delores: Shoot me. Hemp: What are you doing? Delores: Ending this sorry excuse for a life. I said shoot me! Waits: Wait, don't shoot her. She's too much to live for. Delores: Oh please, I've been 'saved' before by people a lot beter than you and it's never worked. Hemp: Maybe they weren't trying hard enough. Charon: Maybe people shouldn't get in the way of fate. Delores: Maybe I just want to die. Hugh: How can you want to die? Delores: See what I'm doing now? Hugh: Yeah. Delores: Well this is wanting to die. Hugh: I got that bit, but why? Delores: Why not? Hemp: Seriously man, don't get her started on her woe is me story. Delores: Oh boo you. Look does it really matter? You don't know me, you really don't have to care. Liana: Hugh care's about everyone, don't you baby.
Hugh: Um yeah, so why do you want to die? Delores: Basically, if you're not going to do it, I'll do it. Delores raises herself from the ground and climbs the tracks. She's stands on top of them and looks at the crowd below her. Hemp and Hugh frantically look to each other and hurriedly climb up after her. Delores: The problem with this world is no one cares, they just pretend to. They all want their fifteen minutes of fame by doing something good. Like starting a protest to end global warming, or offering people salvation. But in the end, we're all selfish. The protester gains fame and fortune and loses sight of the little things that matter, the evangelist saves the people, only to proove his own decency, and the boy fucks the girl and leaves her alone, so alone, shivering and cold, lying naked not knowing what's happened or what to do, and making me feel guilty! Well fuck that, fuck fuck fuck that. Delores looks into the sky and raises her arms. She looks down to the ground where Charon is standing coaxing her. Hemp and Hugh run the few feet to reach her and grab her arms before she can fall. Charon: Damn. Delores: What are you doing? I want to die. We can't live in a world like this. Hemp: Yeah well, you have to. Becuase we aren't letting you die. Delores: But it's not just me. Hugh: What do you mean? Delores: I mean that I'm not just trying to save myself. Hugh: You mean? (He points to Delores' belly and she nods) Oh well now we're definately looking after you. Delores: But that's just it. I can't look after myself, how the hell am I going to look after a baby? I can't do it. I'm not going to do it. Hugh: No! Delores: Please just let me die. Waits: Hold her! Delores: Please! Kill me!!
Hemp: Dude, just calm the fuck down. Waits: You’ve lost your mind. Delores: I haven't! Kill me, please! Brown: You don’t need to shoot anyone. Flood: But she want's me to. Hugh: Don't kill her. Sandy: Will someone please help her! Flood: But I need to kill someone. Bruce: She’s lost consciousness. Please, someone, help. Delores: Kill me! Sandy: Send for help! Liana: You don't need to kill anyone. Brown: Just put the gun down. Bruce: She's dying! Delores: Kill me! Quick, kill me! Flood: Shut up! Flood whirls round and points the gun at Chantelle. She shoots her in the chest. Chantelle lies perfectly still. Sandy + Bruce: No! Bruce: You bastard! You killed her. Just killed her. (He goes to rush at Flood but just collapses by his fallen comrade) Flood: Who’s next? Any takers? (Everyone remains still and silent) Alright then. Now listen to me. We’re going to stay here until the power comes back on. Then we’re going to go about our business. No one saw me. Is that clear. Hemp: Crystal.
Flood: Good. As for the body. That’s your fault Charlie Brown. You’re taking the blame for this one. Brown: But… Flood: You all saw her. She shot her. In cold blood. The stiff tried to run and she shot her. Waits: I can’t lie. Flood: Then I guess I better erase your memory for you. (Hold the gun to Wait’s temple) Waits: (Panicked) Who are you? Flood: Exactly. How about you three? You going to stay quiet? Delores, Hugh and Liana slowly nod their heads. Flood: Right. Now just sit tight. No one move. Paramedics Fiona, Leonard, Megan and Marshall enter onstage. Leonard: Are there any injured? Flood turns to face the crowd, the gun still pointing at them concealing it form the newcomers. Flood: Well, are there any injured? Everyone on stage looks at Chantelle out the corner of their eyes but gravely shake their heads. The action on stage freezes. Charon walks towards the body and places a hand on her shoulder. Charon: It’s time to get up now. Chantelle slowly sits up and holds her head as if just waken. Chantelle: Where am I? Charon: It’s ok. You’re not to worry. Chantelle: What’s going on? Bruce? Sandy? Why aren’t you talking to me? Why aren’t they talking to me? Charon: They can’t hear you. I think you should follow me now.
Chantelle: What’s going on? Where are you taking me? Charon: We’re going home. Lights down.
