Important rural development issues of ancient of medieval period We have not so long story about rural development. In this subcontinent rural development start after British period. We have a little data about before British period. Before Brit ish period 350AD to 1550AD is known as medieval period, in this time in this subcontinent we have not well transportation system. All the village was self sufficient. Characteristics of rural area of Medieval period: 1. No transportation system with out river or palki 2. All villages were self sufficient. 3. Villagers all needs are completed in that village. 4. Villagers had their own administrator called Heahman. 5. Villagers had their own administrative office called Panchayets. 6. Villages had fixed area. According to Sir Charls Metcalf in medieval period there were eve ry village had “Gram Panchayet”. Villages were self sufficient for that he called that village as “Little Republic”. There were four type Panchayet existed, those are: 1. The Caste Panchayet. 2. The Village Panchayet. 3. Single Purpose Panchayet. 4. Panchayet for resolving disputes. That time rural development depend on Ponchayet. All developing work is done by Ponchayet, as, maintain the law and order, justice, educational and other economic base work. At the middle of the period ponchayet made paths,bridges and other public fecilities, it also arranged the celebration of fair and festivals.
