India is rapidly going mobile, with: • Rapid increase in Mobile Internet usage, both 2G and 3G • 2G connection growth is slow, but 3G connection growth is accelerating • Increase in volume of both 2G and 3G data • Increase in Data revenues for telecom operators • For some telecom operators, there are more 3G connections than 2G. • 3G volumes are already higher than 2G volumes • Possibility of overall 3G users surpassing 2G users in 2016

• Usage from Mobile devices is growing rapidly for Internet companies. • Number of mobile users and traffic is rapidly increasing for Internet companies across sectors, up to 75% of usage already for some companies

Potential upside for telecom operators: • a majority of users are still not connected to the mobile Internet • 2G users are possibly making a switch to 3G, which offers higher data ARPU per data user and more data consumption • Consumption is growing rapidly among existing users.

• Potential upside for Internet companies: • Trend of both consumption and transactions via mobile is likely to continue. • More users are likely to be added via mobile, and more are expected to use high speed data, and for rich media.

• Consumption of video is largely skewed towards mobile devices • Transactions, payments and bookings on mobile are increasing, with up to 75% of transactions via mobile for some companies. • Android clearly dominates in terms of OS in India • Usage from mobile apps for commerce appears to be higher than the usage of the mobile web.
