McCann Family Press Release March 12, 2009 Mary Jane and Dan McCann, parents of Alexandria, VA teenager Annie McCann, have released a composite sketch of a woman seen with Annie in the Little Italy section of Baltimore, MD on October 31 or November 1, 2008. Annie was found dead in Baltimore in the early hours of November 2. In addition to the sketch, the following description is provided: White female, dark complexion, 18 to 23 years, 5’ 7” to 5’ 10” tall, 120 to 130 lbs., dark brown straight hair past the shoulders, dark brown eyes; she wore very heavy makeup (eye liner, mascara and foundation makeup to cover dark circles under her eyes), unusual yellow / brown nail polish on nails, a Navy blue “Hoodie” and tight, light blue faded jeans with artificial rips in the knees of the jeans. The McCann Family requests the public's assistance in identifying this person of interest, seen in their daughter's company shortly before her death, in the hope of shedding light on the cause of Annie's death. If you think you know this person, please contact Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland at 1-866 -7 LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587), or at www.metrocrimestoppers.net . Together with Metro Crime Stoppers, the McCanns have offered a reward of up to $10,000 for the arrest, indictment, and conviction of any person or persons responsible for Annie’s death. Notes: Public release of this sketch, completed on March 4, was unexpectedly delayed by Fairfax County Public Schools. On March 5, investigators requested West Potomac High School coordinate the availability of previously interviewed students and staff for brief individual reviews of the sketch, prior to public release of the sketch. Despite follow-up queries by the lead investigator on March 6, and again on March 9 and 10, no response was provided. The McCanns made the request by phone and in writing to the principal of West Potomac at approximately Noon, March 10, asking also that they be allowed to distribute reward flyers to students, through classroom teachers. At approximately 3:20 PM on March 10, by telephone, the Assistant Superintendent for Schools in Fairfax County (Cluster 4), Dr. Brian Binggeli, adamantly refused the McCanns’ request. Dr. Binggeli cited several reasons, including “full cooperation in the past,” “we don’t ordinarily do this,” “inconvenience,” and “the educational needs of the students.” Dr. Binggeli suggested that investigators contact students and teachers at home. The McCanns have concluded that the time involved in coordinating the schedules of approximately 20 families would create an unacceptable delay in the release of the sketch. From approximately 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM today, a mobile billboard will be parked at and driving around West Potomac High School, providing a picture of Annie and reward information. Reward flyers will also be handed out by the McCanns to interested students and other members of the community. West Potomac High School is located at 6500 Quander Road in Alexandria, off US Route1, just south of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Attachments (Sketch, Reward Flyer)
