Organizational Behavior “Organizational behavior is a relatively recent field of study and application. Organizational behavior field is characterized by rigorous scientific methodology. Because organizational behavior is a relatively new field, it must be precisely defined: the understanding, prediction, and management of human behavior in organizations. It is also important to see how OB (micro, theoretical) relates to other closely related disciplines such as organization theory or OT (macro, theoretical), organizational development or OD (macro, applied), and human resource management or HRM (micro, applied).” (Luthans, 2005) Organizational behavior is being analyzed on individuals, groups, and behavior within organizations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization’s effectiveness. Many behavioral sciences have contributed to the development of organizational behavior, namely, Psychology, Social Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology. Thus, organizational behavior can be stated as the study of people in relation to their fellow human beings.

Retail Industry In last one decade market has seen many unexpected changes and the dominancy of one sector overlapped the other, one of the most prominent industries in the current market retail industry emerged up as the largest and most competent industry of the world and marked its presence for capturing more than 10 percent in the Indian market and generating 8 percent overall employment (Indian Business Directory, n.d.). The gigantic (US$ 7.5 billion) volatile retailing industry is swiftly increasing by 5% yearly on year has been already dominated by the pre-existing connoisseurs as Vishal Retail limited, ITC Ltd, McDonald’s India, Future group, Provogue, Infiniti Retail Limited and etc., who have been there in the industry of more than a decade earlier and has worked out on the nuts and bolts of the industry. The prominent telecom industry Bharti group has also stepped in the field of Retail by establishing a joint venture with Wal-Mart, “world’s largest retailer” in 2009 by an investing $7 million, they have also taken some of the initiative by tied up with 30,000 retailers and 8,000 suppliers throughout India for tete-a-tete with cut throat competition by planning to run at least 15 outlets across India in the upcoming 3 years (The Times of India, 2009).

Leadership and Organizational Behavior and Assignment 1 Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of the Bharti Group, born on October 23, 1957 to Late Sat Paul Mittal (former MP) and Lalita. At the age of 18, he started in business, making cycle parts with a borrowed capital of Rs.20, 000 and later he switched to importing & distributing products. Now, he is the main driving force behind establishment of the huge telecom Industry – Airtel, started in 1995 has succeeded in covering over 23 telecom circles across India and set a landmark by achieving the feet to become first private telecom player by obtaining the licence to provide telephone services in India. He is the pride man introducing the first push-button telephones, the first cordless telephones, the first answering machines, and the first fax machines. “Bharti Enterprises Group CEO Sunil Bharti Mittal has been conferred with the prestigious JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award for his contribution to the Indian industry. This award comes as recognition for Mittal’s outstanding contribution to the Indian corporate world and for being a distinguished leader consistently maintaining exceptional standards in Professional Management” (Baluni, 2008). It is one of the most prestigious awards administered by AIMA (All India Management Association) and instituted by Tata Chemicals Golden Jubilee Foundation. Some of the other recipients of the award include great personalities like Late Aditya V. Birla (A. V. Birla Group), Dr. J. J. Irani (Tata Steel), N. R. Naryana Murthy (Infosys Technologies), Rahul Bajaj (Bajaj Auto), K. V. Kamath (ICICI) and Azim Premji (Wipro). Analysis: Mr.Mittal has taken his whole life as a challenge by experimenting something new and innovative by his magnificent decision making and superfluous risk taking ability. He set a landmark in field field of management not only by fulfilling obligations towards his country but also arisen as a fast growing entrepreneur. It’s very difficult to express his gigantic, philanthropic and conscientiousness personality in terms of few management theories, but on the basis of our study I am highlighting his some crucial traits from his overwhelming personality are:Agreeableness: His connoisseur over understanding the people and extracting best out of him is known worldwide and this is the key trait that helped him to emerge up as a sagacious dealmaker. Instead of blaming and criticising others and filliping controversy he believes in developing an astute solution by finding the root of the problem. Decision Maker: It was only his enchanting risk taking and unbiased ability that led him towards drawing the sound and target oriented decision.

Leadership and Organizational Behavior and Assignment 1 Social Responsible: He can be regarded as an architect by designing the amazing programmes for balancing the gap between the professional and personal that lead him towards being a good citizen by playing major contribution in arranging developmental programmes and opening a Football academy in the emerging business hub Haryana.

Motivator: By providing the right treatment to his employees on the basis of judging and finding out their need Mr. Mittal establish his own unique identity among his contemporaries and has emerged up as a great motivation. This distinct intellectual feature of succeeding in identifying the trouble and put forwarding proper treatment acted as a guide to him finding the right, effective and efficient work force. Conclusion: As any general Mr. Mittal believes in taking all the people together to reach the predetermined goal and rearward the productive employees for their performance and filliping their confidence to believe yes we can do.
