Music Notes Exploring the United Methodist Hymnal, ©1989 Part III: “Orders of Worship, Psalter and Confessions of Faith”  Orders of Worship for Patterns for Corporate Worship, Baptisms and Holy Communion are found in the front of the hymnal. Services of Christian Marriage, Death and Resurrection and orders for Morning and Evening Praise and Prayer are found from pages 864-878. Various Affirmations of faith, and Prayers of Confession are found following those services. For musicians, the Psalter is found on pages 736-862. We will focus on the Psalter in Part III for our series. Most of the following was written by Dean McIntyre from the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

Clint does it again Clint Desatta, son of Bill (tenor) and Peggy Desatta, has been asked to join the Alpha Beta Kappa/Sigma Kappa of Tn. National Honor Society, and his name will be placed on a plaque to be displayed at the Bristol Campus. Graduation will be May 24th at the Paramount Theatre. Way to go Clint. District Young Adult in Mission Sybil Smith, member of the District Board of Laity, is planning a young adult weekend mission trip with Danny Howe a n d Ha r r y Ho w e f o r O p e r a t i o n Crossroads in Virginia.  The cost is undetermined at this time.  The date has not been firmed up but should be scheduled at the end of August or the first of September. Music Takes Her to the Top Ke l l i e Brown, violinist in our orchestra and niece of Linda Strickler (soprano) has been selected as one of the recipients of the YMCA’s 18th annual Tribute to Women. Dr. Brown, a leader in the field of music education, currently

serves as associate professor of strings and chair of music at Milligan College. She has been recognized regionally and nationally for her workshops and writings. She is actively involved with the Tennessee Music Educator Association and has participated in countless musicals, recitals and other performances throughout the Tri-Cities for the past two decades. It is always an honor to work with Kellie. Lead, Play, March Our own Stacy Woods, drum major at Sullivan South High School, is presenting her violin recital at CHUMC on May 30, 7:00 PM. Stacy is also a member of South’s Winter Drumline which competed in the national competition last month. Brains and Brawn Adam Griffith, son of Dr. Mark and Holly (computer operator on the Front Porch) Griffith, won the National Scholarship Award last month. He was also featured in the Kingsport Times News in two photos as one of the central players on Sullivan South’s Soccer team.

His family was a member of our church before they moved to Na shvil le. Chad wa s one of the instrumentalists on the country music awards last month. This marks the 3rd year Chad has been on the awards show. He also appeared on a country music television special on April 14. On to Graduate School Devin Lyon graduates from Vanderbilt University on May 8 with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy and a minor in Piano Performance. Devin will be pursuing a dual degree of Doctor Jurisprudence in Law and Master’s of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee this fall following a summer internship in Tucson, Arizona. Devin was a member of the Children’s, Youth and Chancel Choirs at CHUMC as well as percussionist on the Front Porch.
