SOCIAL PERCEPTION TOWARDS “MAT REMPIT”

1. Background -

Definition of “Mat Rempit” The current scenario of “Mat Rempit” activities. In general ; 1. Involvement of youngsters 2. loitering over night 3. Dare to hit Police road-block 4. Endanger other road user 5. Bad Image for Nation 6. Increase in social problem.

2. Problem Statement 1. Existence of “Mat Rempit” contributes bad image to Nation. 2. “Mat Rempit” Cause increment in accident rate for motorcycle. 3. Stolen of motorcycle cases are correlated with Mat Rempit activities. 4. “Mat Rempit” is associated with the youngsters

3. Objective 

To study how far the consequences of bad reputation done by “Mat Rempit”.



To study the rate of accident and motorcycle theft involving motorcycle



To find the method of solution in order to reduce symptom of “Mat Rempit”

4. Research Question 

When and where normally the Mat Rempit roll in action. ?



Does the appearance of Mat rempit endanger other motorist .



How serious is the effect of Mat Rempit activities from the eyes of public.



Who is actually the contender of Mat Rempit?

5. Significant of the Study 

Identification of when and where the occurrence of mat Rempit activities



Create the awareness to public on how serious the threats and danger created by the Mat Rempit



Reference for the respective authorities for them to take action in preventing the problem of mat Rempit

6. Scope of the Study & Literature Review 

The coverage of the study is limited to population of UTM community.



Literature review – research from internet and news paper.

7. Research Methodology  

Base on questionnaire form Agree- disagree questions



This questionnaire was distributed 50 respondents.



Distributed at various locations on campus



Data were entered into the computer using excel software

9. Conclusions Based on the finding of this research, it shows that:• Most of respondent have a bad impression about “Mat Rempit” • Most of respondent have agreed the canning is the best method of punishment. • Parent or family plays a vital role by approaching their children and spend some quality time to prevent the symptom to happen. • Stop calling them ‘Mat’ this and ‘mat’ that, The bottom line is if we are keen in helping to solve the problem, we could for a start avoid name-calling for it only complicates the situation further

10. Recommendations • Parent should pay a good attention in educating their children by giving the bad example or symptom of ‘Mat Rempit'. • Government and also NGOs should be more pro-active and not keeping point finger among others. • Canning sentence may become a good solution, but we should think about the sentence to carry out charity works also should take into account so that hopefully this group will be more understanding about role and responsibility to society and country

• Residents association is recommended to have a list of motorcycle • The scope of study should also be expended not only limited to 50 respondents but a larger number of respondents
