MARYO DE LOS REYES Maryo J. de los Reyes was born on October 17, 1952 in Santa Cruz, Manila, Philippines as Mario Margarito Jorolan de los Reyes. He was a director, known for Magnifico (2003), A Love Story (2007) and Laman (2002). He began his career in the 1970s. He took up mass communication studies in college. Maryo de los Reyes was an active member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association during his college days. For a decade, starting 1965, worked as organizer, moderator and instructor for various seminars and workshops relating to art and theater. He was selected to be a youth panelist at the UNESCO International Woman's Year event in 1975. Maryo de los Reyes made his debut as a movie director with the film High School Circa '65 (1979). He has taught at the University of the Philippines Film Institute. He died on January 27, 2018 in Dipolog City, Zamboanga Del Norte, Philippines.

OVERVIEW Maryo de los Reyes was known directing award-winning films such as Magnifico (2003), Naglalayag (2004) and A Love Story (2007). Magnifico won as Best Feature Film at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2004, while Naglalayag got the Special Jury Award at the International Competition of the Brussels International Independent Film Festival in the same year. He also directed the youth- oriented film Bagets in 1984. He directed films mostly in drama and romance. He also directed films in comedy and thriller. At a young age, Maryo stunned critics with his debut feature High School Circa ’65 (1979) that paved the way for his entry to the mainstream cinema eventually with movies, like Gabun, the Nora Aunor starrers Annie Batungbakal and Bongga Ka Day, the iconic Bagets and its sequel, Bagets 2. Maryo also astonished the movie audience with his tearjerkers Hindi Mo Ako Kayang Tapakan, Saan Darating ang Umaga, Sinungaling Mong Puso, Kaya Kong Abutin Ang Langit, Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-ibig, Tagos ng Dugo, My Other Woman, Kapag Napagod Ang Puso. More recently he made Bamboo Flowers and also another Nora Aunor-starrer Naglalayag in 2004.

CHARACTERISTICS Maryo de los Reyes is a innovative director. He directed films where all people can enjoy. He directed some youth- inspired films. He also directed some films that make you cry. He directs films mostly in drama and romance. He also directed films that are inspirational. He likes to direct films that can be a must watch to everyone.
