The purpose of Doximity… 

The purpose of Doximity is to connect physicians with other physicians and provide them with a secure platform to interact professionally and socially. While this was the original intent, Doximity has evolved into much more as it is now a resource center for physicians. Doximity connects physicians to each other through secure messaging, to patients with the Doximity Dialer, and to information through their curated newsfeed. Physicians can earn Continuing Education Credits (CME), stay current with the latest research and medical journals, and they can even job search within this media. Also, Doximity touts itself as a social network for physicians that connects them to the right jobs. Doximity monetized the network by creating Doximity Talent Finder that utilizes the network for recruitment of physicians by working with health systems and other medical facilities in need of recruiting physicians.

Secure messaging 

Curated newsfeed 



This feature allows physicians to share patient information, review test results for complicated cases, and seek consultation of their colleagues in a HIPAA* secure environment.

This feature allows physicians to abreast of the latest journal articles, research, and Doximity original content. Physicians can provide commentary and share the information within this feature as well.

Doximity Dialer 

This feature allows physicians to make calls to their patients and list any number they choose to appear on caller ID rather than the number they are calling from. This feature allows the physicians to show their office number and not reveal home or cell phone.

Who is the audience Doximity is targeting… 

Doximity’s target audience has recently expanded to now include both Physician Assistants (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) to their network of physicians. With just over 500,000 doctors in the U.S., the Doximity network membership includes roughly 80% of those physicians and 50% of all PA’s and NP’s. What makes Doximity a social media platform?… 

Like other social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook, Doximity operates via website and mobile App, it allows it’s members to connect with each other, manage their profiles, conduct job searches, provides access to continuing education, and receive the latest news.

Why should we care about Doximity?... 

We should care about Doximity because as a lay member of society my doctor having the ability to connect with other specialists around the country to review a medical condition or a particularly difficult diagnosis is better for us as patients. In this, we have greater access to better care.



For the reason above, we should further care that Doximity is held to high standards of patient privacy and maintains a secure network. The ability to review cases with other healthcare providers around the country means that patient information is placed out of the web. As in a breach with Facebook and others, the magnitude of a network breach for Doximity can be extremely detrimental for patients.



Finally, for those that may be seeking a career in the medical provider industry, this is a fantastic network to join and utilize for your professional career. 6

As a healthcare provider, adopting Doximity means greater access to medical journals and publications, an extensive medical library, a network of doctors, PA’s, and NP’s, and job search.



Would I personally use Doximity?... 

I do personally use Doximity via my role in Dignity Health. As a person who recruits for physicians, Dignity Health is a healthcare system that purchases the use of Doximity Talent Finder for physician recruitment.



I personally know many physicians who have joined the Doximity network and utilize it for all of the features previously mentioned. Doximity holds a 4.8 out of 5 star rating on Apple iTunes App Store (Apple Inc.) by its members.
