MARATHON DES SABLES - 2008
FOOD //WATER A daily intake of 2000 to 4000 calories will be required. The organization states that all competitors must take an absolute minimum of 2000 calories a day, this means 2000 x 6 = 12000 calories must be carried at the very least. The diet should ideally consist of 15% protein, 30 % fats and 55 % percent carbohydrates the best source of energy for any sustained form of activity. Water consumption should be between 6 - 7 litres/day. As a lot of salt gets lost due to sweating added electrolytes to the diet is of major importance. So competitors should provide for themselves their breakfast and evening meals; these will ideally be freeze dried (weight consideration again). Enough snacks to last them through the day: chocolate, nuts, dried fruits and high energy bars.
