AS A NATURAL GAS  Methane is available in nature in different states. Methane is main part of natural gas. It is available in marshy places. It is available in mines.

PREPARATION OF METHANE  In the laboratory methane is papered on heating sodium acetate & sodium hydroxide by taking these in equal quantities. CH3 COONA + NOOH

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES    

This is odourless, colorless. It is lighter than air. It is not poisonous. It is insoluble in water.

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES  BURNING IN AIR: CH4 + O2 CO2 + H2O +energy  Action with chlorine : CH4 +Cl2 CH3Cl + HCL

USES 1. It is used as fuel for domestic purposes. 2. It is also used in driving the cars, buses,& auto Rickshaw. 3. It is also used in lightening. 4. It is used for making carbon black.
