Preamble My teaching philosophy is that every student can learn and that all students need to be exposed to a variety of learning modalities in order to be successful. I think students need to be in a structured environment where they can thrive and feel safe. It’s our job as educators to be able to teach and reach those students of different backgrounds and provide resources to each and every one of our students that enter our classroom. Preventative Techniques -Maintaining a positive classroom environment -Explicitly teaching and reteaching expectations -Positive relationships between students -Positive relationships between students and myself -Seating arrangements -Calm voice -Pre-teaching difficult situations -Positive attitude -Conversations to help students understand intent Supportive Techniques -Behavior contracts -Individualized “contracts” to provide breaks, attention, or rewards. -Proximity and walking around as I talk (when appropriate) -Timers (counting up to stay on task for stamina building) (counting down to stay on task for a specific amount of time). -Dojo points to reinforce behavior -Raffle tickets (incentive) -Patriot cards (schoolwide technique) -”I wish my teacher knew” assignment (I wish my teacher knew….) to find problems, build relationships, and learn more about students -I change my main strategy for behavior management about 3 times a year to keep things fresh and lively. I also change seating charts as needed to give students new opportunities to socialize, and interact with new people.
