Reading Workshop

After reading Stellaluna we discussed the concept of “connection”. Good readers make connections in their mind as they read a book. They “connect” characters, situations, or story events with their own experience, with other books they read or with things they know of in real life. Through guided questions, students were able to make such connections in the very text we had read (see bellow) 

BOOK

to

ME

This book reminds me of… I felt like this character when… It happened to me to… Once I did the exact same thing…

“My grandpa and I saw some bats once.” (Alex)

BOOK

to

BOOK

This book reminds me of another book I read… I know about this from another book…

“I read another book about bats before.” (Ioana)

BOOK

to

WORLD

I saw once… This character behaves like… I remember this from TV…

“I saw a documentary about bats on Discovery Channel.” (David)

 Andrei B. connected the word “bat” with what he had learnt at Spelling! He told us that this word has two meanings (the baseball bat or the animal)
