MAIZE • Most important cereal grain in the world • India is the fifth largest producer of maize in the world contributing 3% of the global production • Provides nutrition to both humans (33.3%) and animals (66.6 %) • Grown over an area of 6.4 million hectares with total production of about 11.5 million tones • Average maize yield in India is 1785 kg per hectare. • Maize is grown in all the seasons i.e., kharif, rabi and summer. Patronage • Profit or loss distribution on the basis of value creation(time value) • 90% of value creation to be distributed among the members. Rest 10% to be kept with the cooperative.

MAIZE FLAKES • Health foods- chevada, corn flakes. • Manufactured out of yellow and white corns. • Bulk as well as consumer packingrestaurants, hostels, canteens. • During manufacturing net recovery of 80%.

MANUFACTURING OF MAIZE FLAKES

POPCORN • Quite popular among children and youngsters. • Mass consumption item with fairly long shelf- life. • Low cost and nutritious item consumed regularly. • Market controlled by local manufacturers though branded products are also there.
