Notes: 1 This description of Mah¯ alaks.m¯ı is present in Dev¯ıpur¯ an.a. There is no inconsistency with notions of ´ Vis.n.u or Siva being the initial formless-power in other texts, since everything is related back to the qualityless (formless) power which manifests as this world. We all choose to call that power with different names, viz., Vis.n.u, Siva, Kr.s.n.a, Mah¯ alaks.m¯ı, Gan.esa, and so on.
