The Magna Carta Children’s Book
Once upon a time, there was a bad King. He would rule with fear and scare his people into following his rules. The people decided that they had had enough of the bad King. They decided to come up with rules so they could all share the wealth of the kingdom and live happily ever after.
The children were tired of their parents being put in time out (jail) and decided they had enough. The children decided to tickle the king until he agreed that no free man should be imprisoned without lawful judgment of his equals
Traders would come into the town and were scared of the king hurting them. The traders decided that they would no longer bring candy into the kingdom unless the bad King agreed to keep them safe. The children got very mad that there was no candy and decided to paint everything in the town. The bad King was tired of having handprints all over his castle so he finally agreed to keep the traders safe. The children were happy for a little bit.
The children got bored on a Sunday, they decided to go to church. When they went to church, they saw the bad King’s soldiers kicking the priests out. They liked the priests because they gave grape juice to the kids. They wanted to protect the priests and so they decided to replace the King’s wine with grape juice. In order to keep his wine, he decided to keep the Church free and give it rights.
A man wandered into the kingdom claiming to have lived there for a long time but wanted to adventure the world. A little boy walked up to the man and said “Dad?” Turns out the man was the child’s father and came back to get some food. The bad King had a best friend that had gone on an adventure 4 years ago. The man was his best friend. The King decided to have any man leave and return on his own free will without any harm.
The children were able to go to church and eat all the candy they wanted to. King John remained king because he agreed to follow all these rules. The kingdom was able to live in peace (for a little bit)
