LUBRICATION Long life and fredom from trouble depend largerly on the proper LUBRICATION of every MATING PART of the engine . Sometimes lubricant is called the LIFE BLOOD of the engine .In any I.C engine the lubriÿaÿtÿhás to perform FIVE Function. LUBRICATION : • it must lubricate or reduce the function between moving surfaces by preventing metal to metal contact and between metalic surfaces. In I.C engine the principal parts to be lubricated are crankshaft, mainbearings, connrctinhrod, pistons, cylinderwalls, pistonpinbearing, camshaftbeari ng,cams, pushrods, valve rocker arms, valve tems, timing gears, fans and water pumps bearings, governers etc.., •COOL: • It must remove heat form the cylinder and bearings •SEAL: • It must provide a gas tight seal bet, piston pin, pistonring cylunder wall. •SCAVENGE: • It must carry scot ,abrisive dust, mechanic praticle ,away from the fouctionng parts . •NOISE: • It must help in reducing the noice . Over and above, a lurecant must be cheap, unable with any kind of filter,Low consumption rate, permit long intervels between renewals, and have good cold starting properties . The DETAILS OF UBRICATION of various surfaces are as follows : •SPLASH LUBRICATION •POSITIVE FEED OILERS •FORCED FEED LUBRICATION SPLASH LUBRICATION: In this system oil is kept in the crank case. The oil is splahed by the crank and the conneting rods. Since the speed of the is I.c engine is fast, the splashing cases mist in the crank cae . This mist is sufficient for the lubriction of the cylinder and the piston . POSITIVE FEED OILERS : piston of low and medium speed engine are some tomes lubricated by the positive feed mechanical oilers . In single acting engines the hole doschsrging oil should come between the first and secind piston rings When the piston is at outer ar bottom dead center, this system will ensure that the oil hole is never exposed .In horizontal engines ,the oil is delivired at three points of the cylinder circumference at the op and 90 from it each side . FORCED FEED LUBRICATION: In this sytem, this oil is sprayed from the connecting rod bearing spaces on sides and it falls on cylinder walls.
