, In case you did not make it, the Halloween Costume Parade and Contest was a howling success! We had 44 residents participate in the Costume Parade and Contest. There were ghosts and goblins, vampires and poodles, hippies and super heroes! The parade route circled the Cabana and the cast of characters were judged by a wonderful group of honor student volunteers! When the parade and judging was over, an Osceola County Fire Engine arrived to hand out fireman hats. The kids were even allowed to climb up in the fire engine and talk to the fireman! From there the neighborhood was crawling with the very same residents going from door to door! It really was a great night in Lake Pointe! The following residents won the costume contest:

The Lake Pointe Board of Director’s is actively working toward resolving several issues in the neighborhood. Some of these issues include but are not limited to: neglected yards, outstanding assessments, and community maintenance and repair. If you are interested in learning more about these issues and how the BOD is working towards resolution please come to the monthly meetings. Unless posted otherwise, the monthly BOD meetings are at the Narcoossee Community School Media Center at 7PM on the first Tuesday of each month. The BOD is required to notice the neighborhood by signage 48 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting. Many of your concerns or questions regarding the community can be answered at these meetings. On December 17th, the HOA is holding the Annual Members Meeting. All Homeowners will receive written notice of this meeting 2 weeks in advance. The notice will also include an agenda for the evening’s meeting. This meeting may involve issues that require a Homeowner vote, as well as the election of new officers. If you only go to one meeting a year, this is the meeting to attend. There will also be sign up sheets for committees including Neighborhood Watch, the C.A.R.E. Committee and other committees that need volunteers. Finally, the Lake Pointe Board of Directors would like to wish you and your family a very happy, healthy holiday season! The Lake Pointe Neighborhood Watch is in the planning and organization stage of development. The role of the Neighborhood Watch is to be the “eyes and ears” for the police force. Roles in the program include the coordinator and block captains assigned to each street. If suspicious activity is noted, the block captain will call the police (if needed) and then call the coordinator who will contact all block captains. Block captains contact designated residents on their street in order to keep them informed of the suspicious activity. During the October 29 Neighborhood Watch Meeting Deputy Joe Whitson recommended many steps residents can take to deter crime. Leaving outside lights on and trimming bushes close to the home make it more difficult for a thief to hide. Other tips include adding reinforced screws to door knobs, placing a piece of wood in the slider portion of the sliding glass door, and locking car doors in your driveway. The following are a summary of the important phone numbers to keep handy: 911 – Police Emergency 407-348-2222 Police Non Emergency 407-348-1190 Community Services 407-348-1174 – Drug Hot Line 321-697-4374 – Gang Hot Line If any suspicious activity is noted in the neighborhood, please make it a point to call one of the numbers and have it checked out. It is all of our responsibility to keep Lake Pointe a safe community.

Lake Pointe Homeowners are asked to familiarize themselves with the Declarations and Covenants. Being familiar with the contents of this document will help to eliminate the violation letters that some homeowners have been receiving. If you have received a letter of violation, most often that violation can be easily corrected with a simple application to the ARC. Some Homeowners have contacted the property manager after receiving a letter complaining about the maintenance of other homes in the neighborhood. Be assured that the Board of Directors is dealing with these situations. There are several cases in the neighborhood, where unresolved violations have been sent to the HOA attorney for further review and action.

James Lord Pierpont (18221893), the Author of the Christmas carol, , wrote the song in 1857. The song was meant for a Thanksgiving program at a church in Savannah, Georgia where Pierpont was organist. The song was so well accepted that it was again sung on Christmas day and since then became one of the most popular Christmas carols. On December 16, 1965, astronauts aboard Gemini 6, Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford, played a prank on Mission Control. They said they saw some kind of UFO stating that the pilot was "wearing a red suit". They then played "Jingle Bells" on a harmonica (Hohner's Little Lady model) backed by sleigh bells. Both instruments are now on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and considered the first song and musical instruments played in space. Lyrics (Excerpt): Dashing through the snow In a one horse open sleigh O'er the fields we go Laughing all the way Bells on bob tails ring Making spirits bright What fun it is to laugh and sing A sleighing song tonight Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way Oh, what fun it is to ride In a one horse open sleigh Jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way Oh, what fun it is to ride In a one horse open sleigh

Osceola County Happenings It is important for us to take care of our environment. As homeowners, we can conserve water, recycle our trash, buy products made with recycled material, reduce our use of gas, use natural, organic products on our lawns and we can plant drought loving plants in our landscaped beds. All of these things will help. And this includes our Homeowners Association. In an attempt to green up the Lake Pointe HOA, the newsletter is going to a 100% digital version. Starting in January of 2009, the newsletter will only be available through email. Which means that if you are not on the email delivery list, you must get on it if you want to continue receiving the newsletter. Send an email to the newsletter with your name, email and street address and you will start receiving the digital version. You will also receive Lake Pointe Announcements and updates when you sign up for digital delivery!

There is a new committee being formed for Lake Pointe residents! It is called the . C.A.R.E. Stands for Caring About Residents Existence! You know that in a pinch you can always rely on the people that live near you and your family. Sometimes you may need more than that. The C.A.R.E. Committee is here for you. If you are sick and need someone to help get your child to school, this is the committee to call. If you have had a death in your family and you need help getting meals on the table, this is the committee to call. If you become injured or ill and you need help with errands or day to day housework, this is the committee to call. Whatever your need is, this is the committee that cares about each and every resident of Lake Pointe. We are here for you, whatever your need. If you are a resident and would like to volunteer for this committee, please email the newsletter ASAP so that we can start helping neighbors! There is no limit to the number of volunteers on this committee. Be sure and include your name, address, contact information and the need you can help fulfill. Needs such as carpool, meals, errands, doctor visits, or other such needs. In your time of need, you should know that you can count on your neighbors!

The First Annual Cookie Exchange was such a wonderful success last year, that we have decided to do it again! If you have never been to one, this is the one to attend! Each participant will bring a set amount of cookies (or bars) to the exchange along with the recipe. Each person that attends will go home with a sample of each cookie and the recipe. This is a great way to meet your neighbors and expand your recipe collection. Eventually we will have enough recipes in the collection that we will be putting together a cookbook as a neighborhood fundraiser. So, mark your calendars for Saturday December 13th from 11AM-2PM! If you plan on attending this fabulous event you much RSVP to the newsletter by December 10th. The Hostess of this event will contact you with details as we get closer.

The November goes to Walter and Lucy Rosado at 4911 Oakway Drive. They have taken very good care of their home, and are proud to say that they were the first to build and move into the neighborhood! They have incorporated some beautiful garden borders and their landscape is maturing nicely, as are the oaks in their front yard. Evidence of pride of ownership is obvious, and the YOTM Committee is proud to honor the Rosado's with December's Yard of the Month! Each month a neighbor will be honored for their hard work and commitment to maintaining their yard! If you want to nominate a yard, send your nomination to the newsletter and the YOTM committee will judge the nominations! Thanks to the YOTM committee; Jerry Connet and Carter Schultz! Thanks for taking the time out of your busy lives to care about our neighborhood!
