Design Brief: Hughes Hub Portal Logo July 10, 2018 Who We Are For 60 years, HHMI has been moving science forward. We’re an independent, ever-evolving philanthropy that supports basic biomedical scientists and educators with the potential for transformative impact. We make long-term investments in people, not just projects, because we believe in the power of individuals to make breakthroughs over time. HHMI scientists have radically advanced the understanding of cells, the brain, the immune system, the development of organs, and how to treat many diseases. Target Audience: End users of our new intranet – HHMI employees and contractors across Headquarters (Chevy Chase, MD), Janelia Research Campus (Ashburn, VA), and the field (host institutions around the country). These users’ roles vary from operations (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Business Solutions) to Science Education (e.g., Science program coordinators, program officers), and lab staff (e.g., Investigators, lab managers) in the field. Portal Overview Goals:
Create one central location for timely and accurate information Provide an easy way to find and share information Establish a framework for continuous improvement
Key Messages Continuous improvement: “We’ve heard you – and we’ll continue listening.” It’s on us to maintain the portal’s content. As a user, you feel accountable for providing feedback. As a content editor, you’re accountable for incorporating feedback received from users. Starting point: “It’s just the beginning.” Launching our new portal is the first step. The next step along our portal roadmap is selecting a name for our portal, and we’ll follow that by maintaining our portal with the help of content editors and owners. Shared ownership: This is a new process for the way we’re sharing information and increasing transparency across locations and roles, and it begins with each of us contributing to the portal – whether you’re a content editor/owner or not.
