Daniela de la Deheza TTC 1º year, 2009 Theory of Education What is a good teacher? For me it is difficult to answer this question, even though I’m a teacher. Also, it is very different the theory or what we learn about what a good teacher is and the practise. Firstly, a good teacher is who intents to do her/his best; then the word ‘good’ is too wide, what is right to someone, it would be wrong to others. In my opinion, a good teacher is who teaches her learners individually, taking into account their feelings, emotions and also their motivation without putting aside the goals and contents for each class. A good relationship teacher-learner should be appropriated in which the learners could trust in their teacher. To sum up, a good teacher is the person who is really involved physically, emotionally and intellectually trying to the best than he/she can do everyday. Movie: Lions for lambs After watching the movie, I can reinforce in lots of aspects my prototype about what a good teacher is. In the movie, on the one hand, you can see a typical teacher, trying to give tools to learners, specially to the boy who has an interview with him, to take decisions, thinking in an autonomy way. On the other hand, there are two learners: Arian and Ernest, who intent to teach their classmates than they could do something important in their lives. So they enter to the Army in order to fight in the Afghanistan War. In the Army we can see another kind of teacher: the instructor. In this case, the instructor tells to soldiers what they have to do and in what way. Something weird happened to me during the film, the instructor shows involving feelings, emotion and carefulness to his soldiers. As a conclusion, a good teacher is a mixture of these kinds. Someone who makes you an autonomy and thinking person, giving tools to you to do so, and also someone who involves feelings, emotions and care to his learners.
