TESTY TONE Read the following letter of complaint to Mr Michael Ker, the manager of Ruby Crystal from Mr Ima Conman. Mr Conman obviously has some difficulties in writing a formal letter. Rewrite the communication, as if you are Ima Conman, as a formal letter to the Manager Mr Michael Ker, Crystal Ruby, B01-26 Parkway Parade, Marine Parade Singapore 433244. 32 Middle road s4223576 Dear Mike I am writing this letter because frankly I am just sick and tired of the shabby treatment I got at Crystal Ruby Parkway parade. The food at Crystal Ruby is supposed to be good but I tell you its just rubbish, la! soggy prawns, dead lettuce and overcooked rice its like pig swill. The family and me went for our usual Sunday feed and what do we get, left-overs. You wouldn’t feed it to dogs, come to think of it, I think that was on the menu. And as for the wait staff, what a bunch of losers. Dirty grimy shirts and aprons, it made my stomach heave. You’ve got a lot of middle age and older folks working there as well, is this a retirement home or a place of work? You know us guys like a few young ladies who are easy on the eye, la! Even the wife mentioned the old foggies. But the real disaster came at the cash register, are you kiddin’ me? $10 a head for a buffet and $5 for kids including drinks. I’m sorry but in these times, you have to give the working man a bit of a discount with 4 hungry mouths to feed and a mercedes to run. I’m just so upset about out treatment at that restaurant that I’ve a good mind never to cross the doorstep again. But I could change me mind, mind you, if a couple of meal vouchers or food hampers were to come my way. Any chance? Very unhappy eater Ima Conman

Rewrite the letter as if you are Ima Conman so that the language is formal and the tone polite while the format is in-keeping with a standard formal letter. In your letter address the following concerns: • Quality of food • Staff • Cost • Compensation. Make up an address and other contact details for Ima Conman.

N.B. Remember it is discriminatory to base a person’s suitability to work on their age if they are capable of performing the required duties. PRINT OUT YOUR LETTER AND HAND IT IN TO YOUR TEACHER ON YOUR RETURN TO SCHOOL ON 26 MARCH 2009.
