MIXED MESSAGE – Student’s copy The following letter has been arranged out of sequence. Your task is to arrange it in the correct order being mindful of discourse indicators such as ‘also’ to help you decide on the order of the content:

Mme Petra Low The Principal Treasure Box 78 Bedok Road Singapore 469365 William Tan 432 Upper East Coast Road Singapore 433652 Email: [email protected] HP: 93245683 23 March 2009 Application for temporary assistant in child care Dear Mme Low Currently, I am a student who finished my A levels in 2008 and am to begin my university studies in Australia beginning in July of this year. As I have had an extensive background in Sports training through my participation in inter-school competition in Track and Field and I am about to embark on a Human Movements Degree, I feel I would be well qualified to assist the teacher in charge in planning and implementing a programme to assist the physical development of her charges. My name is Milak Dalvi and I wish to apply for the temporary position of Assistant to the Teacher for the Physical Education Programme at Treasure Box advertised on Saturday 21 March 2009 in The Straits Times. . Within my only family, I have two siblings both in primary school, who I have supervised often when my parents have been at work. I enjoy working and playing with younger children and have been often recognized by members of my family for the patience and care I have taken with my younger cousins and children of family friends.

I have also worked with younger children in a coaching capacity when I assisted the Physical Education teacher in the development of the Track and Field team at Tamasek Primary School for the period of 2007-2008. In conclusion, I hope my interest in the work, my experience in the field and availability will impress upon you my suitability for such a position and that I may be hearing from you in the near future to arrange an interview. As the position is only for a period of three months while the permanent assistant is away on leave, I feel that the position is suited to someone like me who is not looking for a permanent situation. I also live in close proximity to the Childcare Centre should you need to call on me at short notice for other duties. Yours sincerely Malik Dalvi PRINT OFF THE LETTER IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE AND HAND IT IN TO YOUR ENGLISH TEACHER WHEN YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY 26 MARCH 2009
