March 18, 2009 Benjamina Paula Flor, Ph. D. College Secretary – College of Development Communication UP at Los Banos, College, Laguna Dear Dr. Flor: Hope all is well with you and your family. I wrote to seek permission from your good office to allow me to cross-register at UP Diliman this summer to take up Math 14 - a subject not offered in UPLB for summer classes this year. You might ask why I would even be enrolling in a subject not required in the BSDC curriculum. For two semesters, I tried to see how I would fit as a development communicator, but through the course I realized that journalism is not for me. I simply cannot see myself in a career that entails a lot of writing and communication. I felt that I may not excel in this field if my heart is not into it. My passion is actually computers and I believe being in a course that deals with programming or web designing would bring out the best of skills that I have already honed in the past several years. Honestly, BS Computer Science was my first choice during the application for UPCAT, unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the quota. Nevertheless, I tried to absorb journalism into my system, but at the end of the day, it just doesn’t fit. In this regard, I wish to take up Math 14 this summer as my way of catching up with some subjects I would be required to complete as I shift to BSCS next semester. I would be very delighted to be taking up a course which I am very zealous at. May I please ask for your kind understanding with regards to my decision as this is about my future. I am sure you will agree that a person will do very well in a career that he or she is passionate about. Thank you so much and hoping for your favorable response. Sincerely yours,
Paola Ysabel A. Salonga
