LESSON PLAN SCHOOL: Şcoala Gimnazială „Sfântul Andrei” TEACHER: RĂDULESCU SIMONA DATE: 23rd of March 2018 CLASS: II A NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 32 UNIT 6: A sweet tooth! VOCABULARY: - food/drink items; - food/drink preferences. GRAMMAR: - I like/I don’t like; - I’ve got a sweet tooth. I love… TYPE OF LESSON: Mixed lesson SKILLS INVOLVED: speaking, listening; AIMS: A) SPECIFIC AIMS: by the end of the lesson the Ss will be able to:  Identify food/drink items;  talk about likes and dislikes;  develop speaking and listening skills;

B) AFFECTIVE AIMS:

 to create a warm atmosphere in order to offer the background for smooth, easy conversations between teacher and students;  to make students confident in themselves when speaking a foreign language INTERACTION: T- >Ss ; Ss->T ; S->S ; IW ; TEACHING TECHNIQUES: - conversation - dialogue - explanation TEACHING AIDS: board, chalk, power point presentation, poster, DVD (short videos ) A). PROCEDURE ACTIVITY 1: ORGANIZATIONAL MOMENT: (1`) Procedure: T enters the class, greets the Ss and then asks if there are any absentees. The S on duty tells the absentees if there are any. Aims: to assure the introductive part of the lesson. Skills: speaking Techniques: questioning Interaction: T->Ss ACTIVITY 2: CHECKING THE PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE (8`) Procedure: T encourages the Ss to name the animals they know in English, using a power point presentation with animals. Ss name the animals, then the teacher shouts “Look! I can play the piano! Ss must mime the action. T keeps changing the action to make the activity fun for the Ss. T uses the power point presentation again asking Ss to say what the animals can do. Aims: - to create a friendly environment; - to check their knowledge from the previous lessons; - to show Ss that they are capable of using the words and structures they have learnt; - to capture the Ss` interest and attention. Skills: speaking Techniques: explanations if necessary Interaction: T->Ss; Ss->T ACTIVITY 3: INTRODUCING VOCABULARY (12`) Procedure: T pins up the “A sweet tooth “poster on the board and explains to the pupils that if someone has a “sweet tooth”, they like sweets and chocolate. T points to the food/drink items, one at a time and says the words. Ss repeat after the teacher. T points to the food drinks items in random order and name them. Ss repeat after the teacher. T asks students to open the Activity book at page 32. Ss circle the words and then find the stickers at the end of the Activity Book in the Stickers section. Extension: T mimes eating/drinking one of the items and ask students to guess which item it is. Aims: - to involve the class by focusing Ss’ attention on what they will practise; - to encourage Ss’ active participation;

- to create a pleasant atmosphere; Skills: listening, speaking Techniques: discussion Interaction: T->S; S->T. ACTIVITY 4: WATCHING A VIDEO (8`) Procedure: T asks the students to open their book at page 17 and circle the correct variant. T plays the video. Ss watch and listen and they ask and answer questions about the things they see. They open the Activity Book at page 33 and trace the correct answers according to the pictures presented. Aims:- to consolidate the vocabulary; - to raise students’ attention upon the topic; - to work individually; Skills: speaking Techniques: conversation; Interaction: T->S; S->T ACTIVITY 5: EXPRESSING PREFERENCES ( 5’) Procedure: T encourages students to say what they like/don’t like. For example, “I like (jam), etc. They work in pairs and ask each other what they like/don’t like. Aims: ; - to relax Ss; - to create feedback Skills: speaking ; Techniques: conversation Interaction: T > Ss, Ss>T ACTIVITY 6: GUIDED LISTENING (10`) Procedure: T tells the students that they are going to listen to a song called “I’m a sweet monster and I’ve got a sweet tooth”. Ss repeat after the teacher then the t using the poster “A sweet tooth” points to and says “I love lollipops and chocolate, too”. Ss repeat and T plays the video. Ss sing. Aims: - to develop the skill of listening; - to encourage interaction; - to make Ss active and confident in themselves. Skills: speaking Techniques: conversation Interaction: T->S; S->T.

ACTIVITY 7: GAME TIME (5`) Procedure: T tells the Ss that they are going to play a game called Chinese Whispers and explains the rules. T approaches a student at the front desk and whispers a food/drink item. T asks the S to whisper the same word to his/her desk mate, who then whispers to the next student and so on. T checks if the food/drink said is the correct one. T repeats the procedure. Aims: - to encourage interaction; - to make Ss active and confident in themselves; Skills: speaking Techniques: conversation Interaction: T->S; S->S; S-T. ACTIVITY 8: EVALUATION (1`) Procedure: T appreciates the active Ss and gives advice to the less active ones. The T uses reward stickers to praise the Ss. Aims: - to increase Ss` self confidence and encourage them in their study of English; - to give feedback to the class; - to say how well the Ss performed the tasks; Interaction: T->Ss.
