Lesson #12: Life Maps Standard 2: Students will read, write, read, and speak for literary response and expression. SWBAT: —create personal Life Maps —understand how Life Maps can be used as inspiration ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What is the writing process? VOCABULARY: inspiration, brainstorm AIM: How can we use events from our lives to get ideas for our writing? DO NOW: Tell me about the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you. MATERIALS: copies of Ms. Xeni story; Life Map MINILESSON: Students will share with their partner shoulder partner about their embarrassing moment. A few will share out. I will introduce the idea of using events in our lives to get ideas for our writing. MODELING/GUIDED PRACTICE: I will show my students a Life Map I made, model how I came up with the ideas, and read an excerpt from an entry that was inspired by an icon on the Life Map. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Students will make their own Life Maps (Assignment #18) and will be encouraged to talk to their neighbors about the stories that inspired the icons. REFLECTION: Students will tell stories HOMEWORK: Write at least a paragraph based on one icon on the Life Map. (Assignment #19)
