Answer key Worksheet 1
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Should I compare you to a summer day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
You are prettier and more pleasant Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
In summer high winds shake buds from trees of May And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
And summer is really far too short: the sun sometimes is way too hot Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
the sun sometimes is way too hot And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And often the suns face is covered with clouds And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
Making what should be a pleasant day unpleasant by natural course nature is unpredictable and will end,
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
But your life shall never fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor will your beauty ever be lost Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
And death shall never reach you and take you into darkness When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
Because with these lines that I write
7
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
As long as there are men alive to read my poems So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
Forever you will have life in my words.
