Lesson 1: Introduction to Wii System Description:This lesson is designed to introduce students to the Wii game console where they learn how to set it up and about proper use of the equipment. Other activities include creation of an avatar and using/playing Wii Sports. ISBE Standards: • 19.A.4 – Demonstrate physical competency in individual and team sports, creative movement and leisure and work-related activities. • 19.C.4a – Demonstrate knowledge of rules, safety and strategies during physical activity. Knowledge: • Recall the proper procedures to set-up, use and store the equipment. • Identify proper game etiquette. Reasoning: • Analyze how the system should be used. • Evaluate the rules for each of the games when playing. Skills: • Demonstrate proper etiquette for using the Wii. • Demonstrate the ability to play Wii Sports. • Apply the rules necessary to play the game. Products: • Initial set-up checklist • Equipment checklist Activity 1: Introduction to the system Procedure: (10-20 minutes) • After taking attendance, get out the Wii equipment. Explain the different items associated with the game console. Demonstrate how to set up the system, and then take it apart. Have the students work in groups of 2 set up the system. • Show students the clipboard with the Equipment Checklist. Explain the procedures for storage of the equipment including check off of all items by initialing each item present. Activity 2: Creation of Mii Procedure: (10-20 minutes) Start up Wii, show students how to create an avatar called a Mii, and then have them create their own Mii. Activity 3: Wii Sports Procedure: (4-5 class periods) After creation of Mii students can continue on to play Bowling. Have them practice in groups of 2 or 3, then start a tournament when the students have grasped the concept of the game. Resources and Materials: Wii, extra remotes, TV, TV stand
