Legendary Star Trek Models

AMT acquired the license to produce Star Trek model kits in 1966. They released 5 models from 1967 through 1978. The Enterprise and Klingon battle cruiser models were released during original television series production. They have since been released many times. The first release Enterprise and Klingon battle cruiser had lights and battery mounts. Subsequent releases did not. The Galileo Shuttlecraft Star Trek model was released in the mid 1970s and also re-released a number of times. The Romulan Bird of Prey and K7 Space Station also released in the mid 70s have not been re-released. These early kits are sought after collectors often paying $100 or more. AMT also released an Exploration set consisting of a phaser, a communicator, and a tricorder. Aurora models released a 1/12th model of a Spock figure battling a group of snakes and an Enterprise bridge model. Aurora licensed AMT’s molds for sales outside the United States. AMT purchased the Aurora’s entire Star Trek tooling line in 1976. The Mr Spock figure battling snakes was re-released with the first Star Trek Movie wearing a movie type uniform. The Enterprise bridge model was not re-released until the Star Trek 25th anniversary. A new ship model featuring the newly refitted Enterprise from the Star Trek: The Motion Picture movie was released by then Matchbox owned AMT. A Vulcan shuttle model from the first Star Trek movie was released in 1980 and is now a collectors item. K’t'inga-class battle cruiserfrom the movie was also released and re-released several times. The USS Reliant from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan released in 1995. The USS Excelsior and Klingon Bird of Prey from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was released in 1994. AMT/Ertl produced Star Trek TNG and Deep Space Nine licensed model kits. The Enterprise 1701-D from the Next Generation Series was released in 1987. Also from the show following soon after were a Ferengi Marauder and Romulan Bird of Prey. They were released in 3-in-1 kit with a smaller Klingon Battlecruiser. A larger Klingon Battlecruiser was released as a single kit in 1991. The Deep Space 9 Station was released in 1993. A Dunabe-class Runabout shuttlecraft also from DS9 was released at the same time. The USS Defiant from DS9 was released in 1996. A Cardassian Galor class ship kit was released in 1997. Voyager kits were licensed by Revell-Monogram. They released 3 Voyager TV series models in 1995 including Voyager, a Maquis rebel ship and a Kazon ship. The Enterprise NCC 1701-B was released for the 1994 Generations movie. The Enterprise 1701-D and a Klingon bird of prey were also released with Next Generations box art. The Enterprise 1701-E from the First Contact movie was released in 1999. These kits represent a small sample of what's available. Each new series introduces a new Star Trek Model Ship or other variant from Starfleet or some other alien race.
