LATE-CONTEXTUALISTS IN THE URBAN CONTEXT The sculpture has descended from the podium on to the earth. The painting has transcended the frame into reality. Now the work of art and the public context become indistinguishable. Predictability is the enemy of seeing. Experience is experiencing what one does not expect to experience. The Contextualist work is not meant to be actively experienced. It is meant to operate below the viewers awareness. Pieces are seen every day for years, yet they are never questioned. Not a form of Regionalism; the Late-Contextualists reject the generalization of areas or cultures. The only valid culture is the individual. The only valid place is that which is within an individual’s senses at one time. &RQWH[WXDOLVPÀRXULVKHGLQ¶V%HUOLQ The exact locations of works displayed in this book have been withheld in the interest of preserving their contextual anonymity. Contextualist works may still be happening, may always have happened.
