22 September 2008 To: Interested Parties Fr: John Anzalone Re: Summary of Polling Results in Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District Don Cazayoux is quickly solidifying his hold on Louisiana’s 6th District after a very competitive May special election victory. Cazayoux is both personally popular and receives a strong positive rating for the job he’s doing in Congress. Sixth District voters overwhelmingly believe Cazayoux is off to a good start in Congress and give him high marks for his work during Hurricane Gustav and in its aftermath. Cazayoux has expanded his vote since July and is currently leading the field with a strong plurality and decisive leads over his opponents - securing a margin well above the performance necessary to win this three-way race. •

Don Cazayoux has impressive personal popularity with favorability nearing a 3:1 margin (60% Fav / 23% Unfav). Cazayoux’s job rating is even stronger, actually exceeding a 3:1 margin (62% Pos / 20% Neg) and a similar 62% agree that Cazayoux is off to “a good start as our congressman”. Any scars from the special election have healed, as Cazayoux has solidified his standing in the Sixth District.

Voters give Cazayoux high marks for his performance and advocacy for the area during Hurricane Gustav and the recovery. Almost two-thirds (64%) agree that Cazayoux “has done a good job advocating for our area in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav”. The Sixth District clearly appreciates and is responding to the leadership Cazayoux is bringing to the hurricane recovery.

Cazayoux converts his strong support measures into a wide margin on the current vote (48% Cazayoux/ 32% Cassidy / 9% Jackson), -- a 16-point lead with only 11% undecided. Cazayoux is approaching a simple majority and is well above the plurality he will need to win this three-way contest. Cazayoux’s lead has expanded since July, when he held a 7-point lead (43% Cazayoux / 36% Cassidy / 13% Jackson). Cazayoux simply needs to hold and solidify his vote to secure a full-term in Congress.

Cazayoux reaches parity among white voters (43% Cazayoux / 45% Cassidy / 1% Jackson) and leads by more than 2:1 with African-Americans (59% Cazayoux / 3% Cassidy / 26% Jackson), demonstrating widespread support across the diverse district.

Anzalone Liszt Research conducted N=500 telephone interviews with likely 2008 general election voters in Louisiana CD-06. Interviews were conducted between September 17-21, 2008. Respondents were selected at random, with interviews apportioned geographically based on past voter turnout. Expected margin of sampling error for these results is ±4.4% with a 95% confidence level.
