ADMINISTRATION BUILDING: In Progress

Progress in Construction of the Administration Building In early October, the concrete for the 1st lift of basement floor was placed. The works like rebar and form installation for the 2nd lift of basement and 1st floor and water curing of the placed concrete were the major activities during the middle of October.

Simultaneously, construction works for the Boiler, Turbine and Control Buildings are on-going. Preparations for the chimney stack area have also been done while the design calculations have been prepared by the contractor.

Next month’s major activity will be the rebar, form and staging works for the 1st floor of the superstructure of the Administration Building.

Boiler and Turbine Bldg Foundation Progress In the month of September 2008, the bored piling works for Boiler No. 1 has been finished. Excavation works around the bored pile have proceeded during October. After the piles have been exposed, cutting or removing the concrete material of that exposed portion will be done. Soil backfilling compaction is done to make the excavated ground uniform. The installation of re-bars for the foundation will be proceeded. Concrete pouring will be done after all necessary installations are placed for the foundation. A curing period for the concrete foundation will be observed before structural works could be proceeded. For Boiler Unit No. 2, bored piling works are still on-going and is projected to be finished by the end of October 2008. For the Turbine Building, pile works for building foundation are still on going. PC piles are used to bear the load of the turbine building. For the turbine generator, pedestal bored piles are used and the works has been started in October, 2008.

Signing of MOA for MMT, EMF and EGF On September 22, 2008, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was mutually signed by KEPCO SPC Power Corporation (KSPC) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) at the City Hall of Naga, Cebu, creating the KSPC Multi-Partite

Monitoring

Team

(MMT)

and

establishing

the

Environmental Monitoring Fund (EMF) and Environmental Guarantee Fund (EGF) in coordination with the City of Naga-LGU and SPC Power Corp. The KSPC-MMT, being a multi-sectoral committee, is represented by DENREMB, City of Naga LGU, Barangay LGUs, Public Organizations, SPC Power Corp. and KSPC with the primary task of monitoring on the environmental compliance of the project during construction stage and all throughout the operation stage as well as the implementation of various Social Development Plan/Corporate Social Responsibilities Program of KSPC. One of the contents of the MOA is the Environmental Guarantee Fund (EGF) which shall be earmarked for the immediate rehabilitation and compensation of affected communities in cases of any damages or accidents.
