28”

9. Cut a rectangle of cotton fabric 11” by 28”. 10. Finish the edges of the rectangle using either a serger or a three-step zigzag stitch.

Opening of Pouch

7. Fold rectangle in half, right sides together. (The 11” sides should meet – these will be the top of your pouch.) 8. Sew side seams. Use a ½” seam allowance. Press side seams open flat. Folded edge

4. Press the edge of the pouch opening to make the casing. Fold the top down 2 ½”, with right sides together. 5. Sew around the top of the pouch, ½” from the bottom edge of the folded over portion. This will make the bottom of your casing. 6. Sew another line around the top of the pouch, ¾” from your first stitch line. This makes the top of your casing. 1. Turn the pouch right side out. Press the bottom edge to crease the bottom of the pouch. 2. At the side seams, use a seam ripper or pointy embroidery scissors to gently remove the stitches between the two lines of stitching forming the casing. This is where you will insert drawstrings. 3.

Cut two lengths of ribbon 22” long. Attach a safety pin to the end of a length of ribbon and thread it all the way around so that both ends of the ribbon come out the same opening. Do the same on the opposite side seam with the other length of ribbon. Knot the loose ends of the ribbon and cinch the pouch closed.
