BACKGROUND OF SAUL • In 1082 BC, Saul is born.
• In the small but valiant tribe of Benjamin there lived a man named Kish. He had a son Saul, a young man of tall and majestic stature, towering more than a head above the rest of his townsmen.
• On the day before Saul came to Ramah, God had told Samuel to expect the future king on the following day. Samuel, therefore, made preparations for welcoming him and invited a few guests to eat with him that day. As Saul entered the city, he approached a man to ask where the seer lived. Unknowingly, he had chanced upon Samuel himself. The latter immediately recognized Saul, the man for whom he was waiting. • Saul was at the age of 30 when he became the king. (1 Sam 13:1)
In 1025 BC, Saul had been king for 27 years but had failed to obey God twice and is told another will replace him. Which is David.
Saul planned to kill David for his psychotic rages began the same day David Killed Goliath when he heard the women praising David for killing 10,000’s and Saul 1000’s and jealousy ate him. But he failed to kill David.
“So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it, and did not inquire of the LORD. Therefore God killed him and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.” (1 Chronicles 10:13-14)
