The Petition To Sir, SUB : Extension / Regularization of Trains Reg. The people of Kanniyakumari district, especially the youth, are educated and trained in various skills/ occupations. But employment opportunities for all of them is very much limited. Therefore, many of them have landed jobs outside the district in various towns and cities in other states. For their mobility and transportation, train travel is very helpful and costeffective. But unfortunately trains reaching Kanniyakumari district from other districts and states are very much limited in numbers. If the following trains can be extended/ regularized, it would be of immense help both to the people and the Railways: 1) Mysore – Kochuveli overnight Daily Train Via. Bangalore, Hosur, Madurai and Nagercoil, A new daily train from Mysore to Nagercoil/Kochuveli via Hosur, Salem, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil shall be introduced to meet the increased flow of traffic from South Tamil Nadu to Bangalore. South Western Railway operates special trains during summer and winter and these trains have proven to be a great hit. It is requested to regularize these special trains. 2) Extending the Mangalore – Trivandrum 6347/6348 Train up to Tirunelveli Three daily overnight express trains ply between Mangalore and Trivandrum (Train Nos. 6347/6348, 6603/6604 and 6629/6630). Any one of these trains, preferably 6347/6348 can be extended up to Tirunelveli, with stoppages at Neyyatinkara, Parashshala, Kuzhithurai, Eraniel, Nagercoil, Aralvymozhi, Valliyur and Nanguneri. This would benefit lots of Keralites residing at Kanniyakumari district and Tirunelveli district by providing connectivity with North Kerala tourist places. 3) Increase frequency of Chennai -Nagercoil (2689/2690 & 2667/2668) Chennai – Nagercoil (2667/2668) and Chennai Central- Nagercoil (2689/2690) trains are running once a week. This is very useful on the days it runs. This train may be operated TriWeekly for the better convenience of the people, by effecting necessary changes in the timings so that the passengers can reach both Chennai and Nagercoil in the morning hours.

4) Development of Nagercoil Jn. & Kanniyakumari Railway stations ™ There is an urgent need for the construction of two platforms of 24 coach length, two pit lines and five stabling lines for parking and maintenance of 24 coach trains in Nagercoil Jn. Railway Station. We expect an immediate action to start this project by providing enough funds. ™ There is a necessary need to change Kanniyakumari railway station as a Terminal station by the erection of five stabling lines and add two more platforms of 24 coaches to accommodate the non- maintenance trains in this station. This will reduce the terminal congestion at Nagercoil and pave way to accommodate additional trains. Therefore, it is kindly requested that suitable arrangements can be made to operate the train at the earliest to facilitate our people. Kindly have this implemented in the forthcoming Railway budget (February-March 2010).

Thanking You, Yours faithfully,
