Justice Dramatic Monologue By

Jesse VanDenKooy

So…you think that just because she was her sister, that she should not have turned her in? Why? Because she’s “part of the family?” That’s stupid, your whole concept of right and wrong is absurd. The fact that you distinguish “right” from “wrong” in such a stern matter just shows your own unawareness. “Good” and “Bad” only exist in comic books and children’s novels. The world is grey area. All of it! If my brother, of whom I love dearly, murdered someone and I was asked to testify in court; well then I would say lock his sorry ass up! I don’t care if he did it, or my sister or my mother, or grandmother, or my best friend in my life did it! This weak concept of Justice is the only thing that keeps this shit hole of our society together! It’s not about who that person is, or what that person means to you; it’s about what’s fair! In this entire damn life full of inhumanity and unfairness, we must grasp onto the few moments of Justice. Weak justice, bending justice, Justice without the blindfold, Justice that looks at your face and throws you to the dogs. It’s the only thing that keeps this stern, unyielding sense of justice alive! Justice I have up here, in my head…Justice that isn’t blind, but sees deep into you and everything around you, like a beam of light in the abyss. She did something wrong, and so she needs to take her punishment. Whatever punishment society deems appropriate.
