JUMPER CABLE designed by Erika Flory copyright 2007 A boat-necked jumper that can also be worn as a sundress. The ribbed panel on the aline skirt merges into the bodice as cables. The back of the bodice is worked in reverse stockinette stitch and fastens with a single button. Sized for 6 mos (12 mos, 18 mos). Shown in size 18 mos MATERIALS: Peaches n Creme by Elmore-Pisgah, 2.5 oz balls, (approx. 100 yards), 100% cotton. • 3(4,4) balls in color #91 Butterscotch • One pair size 7 (4.5mm) knitting needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE • Cable needle, stitch holders, tapestry needle, 1/2” button MEASUREMENTS • Chest: 15(16, 18)” • Length from shoulder: 12 1/2( 15 1/2, 18)” • Bottom width: 30(32, 34)” • Bodice length: 5(6, 7)” GAUGE 16 sts and 24 rows to 4”/10 cm over st st using size 7(4.5mm) needles.

TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE TECHNIQUES 3-needle Bind-off: Used instead of binding off shoulder stitches and sewing them together, this technique reduces bulk at the shoulders. With stitches on 2 needles and right sides facing, *Knit 2 stitches together (one from the front needle and one from the back needle); repeat from * once.1. With left needle, pass first stitch on right needle over second stitch and off right needle. 2. Knit next 2 stitches together. Repeat 1 & 2 until 1 stitch remains; draw yarn through this last stitch. c3f: Slip 3 sts to cable needle, hold in front of work. Knit next 3 sts from lefthand needle; knit 3 sts from cable needle. NOTES: Directions are given for 1st size; directions for 2nd and 3rd sizes are in parenthesis. When one number is given, it applies to all sizes; when 0 is given, do nothing for that size. FRONT: Cast on 60(64, 68) sts. Work 7 rows garter st. End on RS. Start rib panel: Row 1 (WS): p17(19, 21) sts, k2 p2 for 24 sts, k2, p17(19, 21). Row 2 (RS): k17(19, 21) sts, p2 k2 for 24 sts, p2, k17(19, 21) sts. Repeat these 2 rows AND AT SAME TIME work Decrease row every 6th row: k2, ssk, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. until 48(50,50) sts remain.and length is 8 1/2(9 1/2, 11 1/4)” from cast on. End on RS. Bodice: Row 1 (WS): k4, ssk(ssk,0), k7(8, 10), work rib panel over next 22 sts, k7(8,10), k2tog(k2tog, 0), k4. Row 2 (RS): k4, p8(9, 10), c3f, p2, c3f, p2, c3f, p8(9,10), k4. Row 3: k4, ssk, k6(7,8), p6, k2, p6, k2, p6, k6(7,8), k2tog, k4. Row 4: k4, p7(8,9), k6, p2, k6, p2, k6, p7(8, 9), k4 Row 5: k4, ssk, k5(6, 7), p6, k2, p6, k2, p6, k5(6, 7), k2tog, k4. Row 6: k4, p6(7, 8), c3f, p2, c3f, p2 , c3f, p6(7, 8), k4. Row 7: k4, k6(7, 8), p6, k2, p6, k2, p6, k6(7, 8), k4. Row 8: k4, p6(7, 8), k6, p2, k6, p2, k6, p6(7, 8), k4. Row 9: k4, k6(7, 8), p6, k2, p6, k2, p6, k6(7, 8), k4. Repeat rows 6-9 until bodice measures 4(5 1/4, 6)”. Change to garter st, knitting all stitches, decrease 3 sts over each cable: k2 tog three times over each cable. Work 5 more rows in garter st. Neck: Work 8(9, 10) sts, slip to holder, BO center 17(17, 17) sts, work 8(9,10) sts, slip to holder. BACK: Work same as front until length is 8 1/2(9 1/2, 11 1/4)” from cast on. End on RS. Bodice: Bodice is worked in reverse st st with garter stitch at edges. WS: Knit, decreasing 9 sts evenly across row: k1(2,2) ktog, *k4, k2tog*; repeat from * to end of row, ending with k1(2,2). Row 1 (RS): k4, purl to last 4 sts, k4.

Row 2 (WS): k4, ssk, knit to last 6 sts, k2tog, k4. Repeat rows 1 &2 2(3,3) times more. Keeping first and last 4 sts in garter stitch, work even on 33(33,37) sts until 2(3, 3 1/4)” from start of bodice. End on WS. Divide Bodice: Work 16(16, 18) sts, BO 1 st, work 16(16,18) sts. Working one side at a time in reverse st st, keep first and last 4 sts in garter st until 4(5 1/4, 6)” from start of bodice. Work 6 rows garter st. Shoulders: BO 8 sts at neck edge, work last 8(8, 10) sts and slip to holder. Work other side of bodice to correspond. Buttonhole tab: With RS facing, pick up and knit 5 sts along left back neck opening. Knit 2 rows. Buttonhole row: k2, yo, k2tog, k1. Knit 2 rows. Decrease row: k2tog, k1, k2tog. BO.

Finishing: With RS facing, join shoulders using 3-needle BO. Sew side seams up to bodice. Sew button on right back to correspond with buttonhole. Work in loose ends. 15(16,18)”
