Nebraskans to Rally at the State Capitol as Part of the Nationwide Independence Day Tea Party on the Fourth of July When: Saturday, July 4, 2009, 12:00pm – 2:00pm Where: State Capitol, 1445 K. St., Lincoln, NE This Fourth of July will see Nebraskans from across the state gather at the State Capitol in Lincoln to celebrate the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and Re-Declare Independence from government that has grown beyond the size and power originally intended by the Founding Fathers. “We’re holding our event at the State Capitol for a very specific reason,” said Shelli Dawdy, “to send a message to Washington, D.C. that most of the power in this country is supposed to lie with the States and with the people, not in some far-off city.” Dawdy organized the April 11 Tea Party at the State Capitol, which had nearly four hundred in attendance, and is working with a number of people in the Lincoln area and around the state to restore Constitutional, limited government. One of the ways the group hopes to see the restoration of Constitutional principles is to ensure that more Nebraskans have a convenient copy at hand. “We’ve given out five hundred pocket Constitutions since April,” Dawdy stated, “And we will be distributing them again on the Fourth.” Members of the group have been self-funding this and all other projects. In addition to meetings to discuss issues and determine courses of action, members of are focusing on grassroots leaders, such as Ryan Sellers of North Platte, who organized the April 15 Tea Party in that city. Sellers will be traveling to Lincoln on the Fourth of July to speak at the Capitol event. Also speaking will be John O. Erickson who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. Local musician Gary Redden will perform. Many Nebraskans are angry that the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2454, the bill commonly known as “Cap & Trade”, last Friday. Information regarding the three hundred pages of middle of the night additions will be provided at the event along with a number of suggestions for stopping its passage in the Senate. ####
