PRECAUTIONS
•
Plan the work involving personnel responsible for preparation (isolation, depressurization, draining, flushing, purging etc) of the pipeline to be pigged.
•
Review Scope of Work & step by step procedure.
•
Obtain the required work permit

Incorrect Isolation Pre - work
•
Identify the valve to be closed referring P & ID.
•
Ensure the valves are closed fully.
•
Use Lock & Tag
•
Depressurize the pig barrel to safe location.
•
Drain the liquid content to trap / sump / safe location.
• Confirm the absence of pressure by opening a vent to safe location as well as observe pressure gauges reading.
Presence of Flammable / Toxic vapors
• Flush the pig barrel with water for possible presence of Pyrophoric deposit.
•
Asses the risk & Override gas detectors in case required. •
Carry out gas test for safe working area.
•
Confirm isolation valve integrity by slight opening the nearest vent / drain point. Isolation Valve Passing
Spark Generation / Fire
•
Confirm the absence of pressure at least from 2 independent sources (e.g. pressure gauges fixed at different location of pig barrel).
•
Use non sparking tools in hazardous location.
•
Keep Fire Extinguishers & fire hose in ready condition. Purge with nitrogen (if required) to remove toxic content.
Exposure to Toxic Vapor Work Splash of Hazardous Fluid
Use air line unit if required.
•
Use safety goggles& Face Shield.
•
Loosen the bolts / studs slowly.
•
Do not stand in front of pig barrel door while opening it.

Residual Hazard
Ensure the closure of pig barrel door after loading the
pig.
•
Ensure the closure of all vents & drain valves before start pressurizing the pig barrel. • Ensure the normalization of all valves including vent, drain, pressure gauges, gas detectors, liquid trap etc. •
Ensure proper housekeeping of the area.
