1. Introduction 1.1

Function

The JRC Model JLN-550 Doppler Sonar is an equipment for measuring the bottom tracking speed and water tracking speed, utilizing the reflection of the ultrasonic wave signal from the sea bottom or in the seawater, which are radiated downward obliquely from the transducer with which the hull bottom is installed. This equipment measures in two directional speed of bow and stern line direction of the ship, and right and left direction in the bow. The right and left direction speed of stern is calculated by using the ROT(Rate of turn gyro) signal. (Three axis type) The navigation route distance is multiplied and displayed. The JLN-550 conforms to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) performance standards, provides accurate displays of ship’s speed over a wide range from dead slow to maximum.

Final Check

Quality confirmation of transducer when installing 1) Phenomenon to generate in the equipment The quality of the transducer was not confirmed before the trial. And, the trial was done without knowing the thing that the transducer has been damaged. Therefore, the case that becomes a big problem has been generated. 2) Concrete content of work To confirm whether transducer is normal before the ship is launched, carry out the following work: [1. Confirmation of insulation resistance and thermistor, 2. Confirmation of the resonance frequency of transducer]. 1. Confirmation of insulation resistance and thermistor 1-1 Remove the transducer cable from the terminal TB3 of Signal Processing (NJC-24). 1-2 Measure the insulation resistance between each TD1-TD6 element interval and shield using 500V megger. 1-3 Measure the resistance of thermistor TH by the multimeter. (Do not measure TH by megger.) Measurement result -1 Transducer and the transducer cable are normal for 50MΩ or more between elements, 10MΩ or more between the element and the shield wire, and 10MΩ or more between the shield wire and the hull. -2 The value of the thermistor is normal for 4-50kΩ. (Measurements are different depending on the temperature.) Transducer cable CFQ-6981

2. Check the resonance frequency of transducer 2-1 Remove the transducer cable from the terminal TB3 of Signal Processor (NJC-24). 2-2 Measure each transducer by using antenna analyzer (AA-30). 2-3 After setting antenna analyzer (AA-30) to the SWR mode, sweep 240kHz±200kHz for TD1-TD4, and 2MHz±500kHz for TD5 and TD6. 2-4 The Dip point of the sweep figure (point that the signal becomes minimum) shows the resonance frequency. Measurement result -1 When TD1-TD4 have the dip point in the vicinity of 240KHz and TD5 and TD6 have the dip point in the vicinity of 2MHz, the resonance frequency of the transducer is normal. (The sweep figure is different according to the channel.) -2 When there is no Dip point in the result of the measurement, it is poor engagement of the underwater connector, or defective of the transducer. When the underwater connector is a poor engagement, engage an underwater connector in the transducer tank completely. When transducer is defective, replace the transducer.

28

Poor engagement of underwater connector There is a space, and it becomes noncontact.

The engagement of an underwater connector is normal. Make the gap zero.
