Layering.

 

A tong is my tool. These are three different parts of my project each has five different layers of simulation of my hand and my tool.

Bottom parts of each pictures are drawn in my imagination of how darken parts are going to be shown in different angle that I cannot really see my eyes but can imagine in 3D dimension.

For the first part of my layered drawing, I wish I would’ve drawn my hand in the back so the drawing becomes more as 3D and becomes my hands more recognizable.

This is where I learned I need to distinguish the thickness of the lines to make each part of drawings is much clearly shown.

As you compare these two drawings, you can see that the difference in distance between from where you are seeing to the end part of the tool as you look at the length of tool drawn. Also, it gets darker shades are shown as it goes deeper.

You can picture and draw out the scenes that you don’t actually see and also you get to figure out where your hand and how your hand forms as you move tool even in slight different position.

Collaging These

are the drawings for second project, collaging. These drawing do not necessarily need to be shaded since it is going to be all covered by pictures.

As my tool, a tong, is used by and also mainly moved by finger strength and all, this piece is harmonized with various fingers and hands in different forms and colors as well

Since my tool is kitchen utensil and also it is made to pick up foods, i tried to have fun with kitchen-related products, whole different kinds of food and other kitchen utensils as well. On the right top is the main tong part viewed from the top. On the right bottom, it is the parts of my tool that is viewed from the front.

  

These two are collages in very controversial materials. On the top is combination of metal (car parts), which is the actual material of my tong On the bottom is combination of fabric, which is very soft, shapeless and very opposite of metal.

This is the back view. I tried to show “green spirit” in this part but it did not turned out as clear for each parts to be recognizable as I expected.

Tooling

These are the three tools I picked for project 3, tooling. One is my original tool, a tong. next choices I picked are a cheese slicer and a shag remover.

This is used as one of the method, punching. Top one is shown well and punching even made the material look different. Bottom is used with crumbles of baked dough but was not useful for punching method.

These are the examples of casting. Both show well of the shapes of tools. However, no huge discovery. Maybe I could’ve been more creative with casting for other use.

These are my best pieces for this project. It used the last method, molding. I unexpectedly found way to mold these forms from my tools. Also my material, dough, changes it’s texture depends on how I use it and that adds up more on the presentation.

Synthesizing

These 3 different containers were the opportunity and sources I got the ideas for my final container.

First, I found out backing a dough did not make pieces of cookies hard enough so I could stitch. So I FRIED, which I did for a handle one of my previous example containers

Then I used my tong to punch each pieces of dough for stitching. After I fried them, I stitch them really tight . And also tied the band so I can wear the container on my arm.

This is my final container. A tong perfectly fits. It doesn’t only fits, it has relationship with its container as well since a tong cooperated in it’s process, as it punched each parts of the container

This project has been fun overall. I was only frustrated at the beginning. I enjoyed the drawings but did not understand the relationship between projects and the architecture I tried to understand. However as we do more observe our tools and materials plus the lectures we were taught, I started to realize that I am not going to learn as much if I don’t enjoy what I am doing here. I think I learn at least a bit about how architects see the world and even small things around us and also we can get so much more from things we might even don’t realize. God truly has given unlimited ability to every single creatures equally.

Thank you so much for reviewing my portfolio.
