MAP: My Academic Plan
You will need between 60‐76 credit hours to earn an associate degree and more than 120 credit hours to earn your bachelor’s degree. While we typically refer to these as 2‐year or 4‐year degrees, they often take students longer to complete. For example, if you have to take any developmental classes, retake a course, go to school part time, or change your major, you may be in school longer or have to take classes during the summer. Careful planning and dedication, however, can help you graduate within your target time frame. If you are a full‐time student, it is recommended that you take 15‐16 credit hours each semester to stay on track for graduation. College transfer students also may require more time to graduate; therefore, you should begin working with your transfer university within the first year of community or junior college in order to ensure a seamless transition. You will need your transcripts, your plan of study at the community college, and a plan of study at the university (if you are college transfer) to complete this assignment.

Instructions: This plan should be an accurate listing of all the college courses you have taken and the specific courses that you still have to take in order to finish your goal degree. For ACA 115 students, you will complete the Community College section of this plan to the end goal of an Associate Degree. For ACA 122 students, you will complete both the Community College and Transfer University sections of this plan to the end goal of a Bachelor’s Degree. To ensure accuracy, follow these steps: 1. In the Community College section, begin by listing all the college credit you have already earned, whether it was at another college you attended or in high school through AP, Early College, or other dual enrollment classes. You can use WebAdvisor or Aviso to get an accurate listing of the courses you have taken at or transferred into CCC&TI. 2. Using the Program Evaluation tool in WebAdvisor and/or by meeting with your community college advisor, get a listing of the courses needed in order to complete your degree or to earn enough hours to transfer to your chosen university. 3. Compare the list of required courses to the list of courses for which you already have credit. Note which courses you still have left to take. Plan out which semester you want to take which courses in order to finish in a timely manner. You may have to consult the college catalog to determine which semesters certain courses are offered and if courses have pre‐requisites that must be taken beforehand. 4. If applicable, contact your chosen transfer university and/or use the tools on the website to determine the courses needed to earn your bachelor’s degree. If you are considering one of the NC public universities and a fairly popular major, you should find a baccalaureate degree plan already designed for transfer students. (On the university website, you can search for baccalaureate plans or transfer guides and generally find these. Or use the link to the general UNC transfer page posted in Moodle.) 5. Finally, add or delete semesters and tables in this document as needed to make your plan accurate. You will probably not need six semesters at each school, so change this document or relabel the terms to fit your needs.
