PRESS RELEASE December 3, 2009 RE: Press Release On November 7, 2009 a burglary occurred at a residence located on the 300 block of River Road in Coryell County, just outside the city limits of Gatesville, Texas. Reported stolen were three firearms. On December 1, 2009 the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division made two arrests connected to the burglary. Arrested were Jesse Beckett, 26 years of age and his wife Cassandra Beckett, 26 years of age, both from Gatesville. Jesse Beckett was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Theft of a Firearm. He was set a total of $15,000 bond for the charges. He remains in the Coryell County Jail. Cassandra Beckett was also arrested and charged with Theft of a Firearm and was set bond at $5,000. She was released on bond. Both were arrested, without incident, at their residence on College Street in Gatesville, Texas. All three firearms were recovered by the Sheriff’s Office. Unlawful Possession of a Firearm is a 3rd degree felony, but was enhanced to a 2nd degree felony since Jesse Beckett has been previously convicted of a felony charge. The charge is punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison with up to a $10,000 fine. The theft of a Firearm is a State Jail Felony punishable by 180 days up to 2 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
