JE-65 Drop Ship “Gentle Fall” The JE-65 was a design of necessity when the Protos started colonizing other planets and found themselves in battles on alien worlds. This is a quick way to land multiple troops, establish a command base, and secure a landing area for the larger drop ships that held the vehicles like tanks and armored troop carriers. I am going to approach explaining this vessel in two parts since the vessel and the cargo container are separable. The vessel will be first.
JE-65 Drop Ship; “Gentle Fall” Vehicle Type: Ship to planet transport. Crew: 3, pilot, communications tech, and loading tech. MDC By location: Nose (command section): 100 * Main Body: 200 Wings (2): 75 each Turret Weapon: 50 ** Shields: 150 * Depleting the MDC of the Main body completely destroys the vessel. ** Depleting the MDC of the shields will short the unit out. Any damage above the shields MDC transfers to the hull of the ship. Speed: Atmosphere (X2 in space) Hover – Max: 175 kps Cruise: 100 kps Power Source: Chemical Drive Maximum Range: 23,000 km on full tank Length: 76 ft 4 in (88 m) Width: 33 ft 3 in (130 m) Height: 23 ft 7 in (16 m) Cargo: 100 mt
Weapons: Mass Driver (2 on turret) Firing Arc: 360˚ f/p/a/s Range: 9500 km ( 5970 mi. ) Damage: 5D6 MDC each Rate of Fire: 3 per melee
Payload: unlimited Close combat bonus: +4 strike Short Range Missiles (Forward) Range: 5 mi. Damage: 2D6 x 10 MDC each Rate of Fire: Volley of 1 – 8 equal to that of the pilot’s hand to hand. Payload: 8 Bonus: +3 strike
Sensors and Equipment: Shield Generators I: A unit that projects a field of energy around the ship to provide protection against anything that would cause damage to the ship. Reduces damage from any energy weapon by ½. The shields regenerate any lost MDC at a rate of 1D6 x 10 at the end of each melee round. Long Range Video and Communication system: Controlled from the comm. tech, it can send a clean accurate audio/visual transmission up to 1,000 miles away. It may also pick up and monitor outside transmissions. The range is doubled in space and can be extended indefinitely by relaying it from one ship to another or using satellites. Combat Computer: Calculates, stores, and the data can be called up on any display in the ship. This system is linked to the radar and targeting systems. Adds +2 to initiative roll, +1 to strike on all weapons systems, +1 to dodge. Targeting System: A special system that allows the ship to lock on one specific target and either guide the lasers where to shoot to hit a moving target, or guide the missiles to the target. Adds a +5 to strike to all weapons systems. Range is equal to the ships radar system. Radar System: A sophisticated radar system, suitable for ground, air, and space surveillance. Can identify up to 20 targets and simultaneously track 10. Range: 30 mi. Radar Detector: Registers radar waves to indicate radar surveillance. Can track the source of radar emissions with 80% accuracy. Range 5000 miles. Chemical Drive: This is the system that provides the propulsion for the vessel. Chemical drive uses liquid fuel to produce the thrust which propels the space
craft. It is also what provides power to the ship’s systems. Anti-Missile Chaff: When triggered it sends out a canister designed to decoy enemy anti-aircraft missiles. The canister heats up, attracting the missile’s heat sensors, gives off a fake radio signal, and sends out streamers of aluminum designed to fool radar-guided units. Air Recycling System: Allows for unlimited time in space or underwater or in impure air (gas, pollution, etc.). The unit will recycle the vehicle atmosphere so long as power remains. This system includes making the vessel airtight. The vessel becomes effective under water up to a depth of 1100 feet (335 m).
Combat: Attacks per melee equal to those of the Pilot. +1 to strike +2 on initiative +1 to dodge
Internal Description 1. Pilot’s Station: This seat is where the pilot sits to navigate the ship either through space or through an atmosphere. The seat slides back along tracks and swivels to allow the pilot to sit or get out of the seat. In the forward position it locks into position to secure the pilot into position. 2. Communications Station: This is where the communications of the ship are handled. The Comm. tech sits in the chair that slides along the station on a track. The chair can be locked at any point of the track to secure it during turbulence. This chair also swivels. 3. Load Master Station: This station controls and monitors the Radar system, the laser cannons, and is responsible for the loading and the safe drop of the troop drop container. (Troop Drop Container) 4. Storage Lockers: These two lockers that are next to the step between the drop Container and the shuttle are used to hold any equipment needed. Usually it is loaded with medical supplies, extra weapons, a environmental suit w/oxygen, and extra food and water jugs. 5. Drop Container Interior: This whole unit is one room. The front, (the side that merges with the shuttle), has a step up to match with the shuttle bridge. The walls are lined with seats for 19 people, and the back wall opens to make a ramp to exit the container. On each wall there are two sealed gun ports that have a mounted laser rifle mounted in it. Each seat has two ports at the top of the back rest to recharge E-Clips, and there is a shelf above each set of seats for storage of equipment. Under each seat is a Utility Droid (see description) in it’s folded storage position. 6. This is the command station of the container. Whom ever is in charge can monitor any signals from each troop that is assigned to this Drop Container. This includes video and audio transmissions, Bio-readouts, GPS positioning beacons, and even ammunition gauges all depending on if them troops were outfitted with this equipment. This is also where the communications system is to communicate with other Containers, ships, and ground vehicles. 7. Back Door: The whole back wall opens up, hinged at the floor, to be used as a ramp for entrance and exit of the container.
JE-66 Drop Ship Container Vehicle Type: Troop container and command center. Crew: 20, 19 troops, and 1 commander. MDC By location: * Main Body: 50 each wall Gun Ports: 10 * Depleting the MDC of a Main body wall completely collapses that wall. Speed: 0 Power Source: Fusion Generator Maximum Range: 0 Length: 38 ft 7 in (88 m) Width: 13 ft 10 in (130 m) Height: 11 ft 8 in (16 m)
Weapons: Heavy Laser Rifle (1 each port) Firing Arc: 90˚ p/s Range: 3 km ( 1000 ft. ) Damage: 4D6 MDC each Rate of Fire: 1 per attack each Payload: unlimited provided power Close combat bonus: +2 strike
Sensors and Equipment: Long Range Video and Communication system: Controlled from the comm. tech, it can send a clean accurate audio/visual transmission up to 1,000 miles away. It may also pick up and monitor outside transmissions. The range is doubled in space and can be extended indefinitely by relaying it from one ship to another or using satellites. Flotation Device: The Container is designed so that at the press of a button the very bottom of the container detaches, and a flotation device is inflated. It is basically a thick skinned rectangular air mattress about 41 ft long, 16 ft wide, and 4 ft thick. It is made up of 6 independent chambers so if 1 or 2 are punctured the rest will stay inflated. It is made up of a metal fiber mesh so it is strong, having an SDC of 25 each chamber.
