January—June 2007 One of our most popular courses, it is great for community needs. This course combines lectures, demonstrations and video with hands-on training and practice. Participants in this course learn to recognize and respond to emergencies including shock, cardiac and breathing emergencies for adults, children and infants, heat and cold emergencies, sudden illnesses and poisonings. Additionally, participants will learn first aid for everything from cuts and scrapes to muscle, bone and joint injuries.

Babysitting 3130 6 hours $35 The Babysitter’s Training course has a unique interactive, educational format that tasks youth, 11 - 15 years of age, with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care. Basic Aid Training (BAT) 32016 hours $25 This course, which may be led by any responsible adult, introduces 8-10 year-olds to the emergency action steps, Check, Call, and Care as well as to basic first aid procedures. January—June 2007 Challenge Courses

The purpose of a challenge course is to give individuals the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skill competency outside a formal class setting. Participants have sole responsibility to prepare for the knowledge and skill evaluations. Anyone is eligible to participate in a challenge course. Individuals who do not possess a current American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating the course they wish to challenge may participate in that course once. If they do not pass the challenge course, they are required to take the full course in that field. They are not permitted to attempt a challenge course again. Individuals who hold a current American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating the course they wish to challenge may do so as often as the challenge courses are available, as long as their certificates remain valid. Students must be able to validate current certification before being allowed to enroll in a challenge course more than one time. Please bring proof of current certification with you to class to show your instructor. If your card has been misplaced, contact your American Red Cross chapter where you received your certificates and ask for proof of this. There is no teaching, prompting or reviewing of skills by the instructor in this course. Please call the NWNC Chapter for an appointment if you wish to challenge a CPR or first aid course. The times and fees vary dependent upon which course you are attending.

Course Schedule CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer 32800 10 hours $70 (Includes pocket mask and book) This course is especially designed for the health care professionals, public safety personnel, emergency response and first aid team members, lifeguards, EMT's and others who have a duty to respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies. It teaches a variety of skills including one- and two-rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation masks and bag-valve masks for ventilating victims, and how to respond in special rescue situations such as drowning. (Limit 10 students per class)

With a history spanning more than 90 years, the American Red Cross is today's premier provider of first aid, CPR, water safety, swimming lessons, caregiving, babysitter's training and other health and safety education programs. Choose from comprehensive courses created to fit a variety of needs. You can register for a class either by: Phone in (credit cards only, please), Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., excluding major holidays. In person at our Chapter House (We accept cash, checks, and credit cards). Or by mail (NWNC Chapter, 690 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106). Online at www.nwnc-redcross.org Registration must include payment; class space will not be held without payment. Register early for class space is limited. NO walk-ins will be accepted. No transfer or refunds will be issued once a class has started. All class participants are required to sign in at the visitor's podium in our lobby. Classrooms are located on two levels of the Chapter with elevator service available. Please contact us before class if you have a medical condition or a special educational need. If you need to transfer or cancel a class, please let us know at least two full working days in advance so we may fill your space. We will make every effort to accommodate your request, but refunds and transfers may not be honored if made without sufficient advance notice.
