Jambalaya Tricot
Jambalaya is a new shoulderbag version of our smart knitting tote, this time knit in our Trilogy yarn.
One size SIZE Approximately 16” wide x 12” high x 4” deep (Not including handle)
MATERIALS 8 Hanks BERROCO TRILOGY (50 grs), #7620 Perthshire Green for bag, 1 hank for optional tassels 29” Length circular knitting needle, size 7 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE 2 Double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 7 Two 15 1/2” long bamboo rods Crochet hook, size 5.50 mm (I) for optional tassels 1 St marker

Tapestry needle Optional: 1 piece of heavy cardboard 13” long x 4” wide
GAUGE 12 sts = 4”; 16 rows = 4” in Pat St on size 7 needle TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE
PATTERN STITCH (Multiple of 2 sts) Rnd 1: * K1, p1, rep from * around. Rnd 2: * Sl 1 with yarn in front, p1, rep from * around. Rep these 2 rnds for Pat St.
BAG With circular needle, cast on 210 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Work even in Pat St until piece measures 14” from beg, end on Rnd 1. Bind off.
FINISHING Fold bag flat and sew bottom edge. Turn points at either end under as on diagram and sew in place. Place cardboard in bottom of bag if desired. Thread tapestry needle with 2 strands of yarn held tog and sew top of bag to bamboo rods as in photo. Strap: With dpn’s, cast on 5 sts and make I-Cord as follows: Row 1: * K5, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until piece measures 72” from beg. Bind off. On front of bag, thread strap from WS to RS under bamboo rod then from RS to WS under the other end of same rod. Rep on back. Tie ends of handle tog securely at side of bag. Optional Tassels (Make 2): Cut forty 13” long strands of yarn. Cut two 14” long strands of yarn. Put 13” long strands tog and tie securely at center. Fold strands in half over tie. Wrap strands with two 14” long strands held tog 1” below tie. Fasten wrapped strands securely, drawing ends into tassel. Trim ends to even off. Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that measures 1/2 the length of strands desired. Cut lower edge to free wrapped strands. Cord: With crochet hook, make a chain 16” long or desired length. Tie center of chain around knot of handle at side of bag. Tie 1 tassel to each end of chain.
