PLANT DESCRIPTION The OTTO PE oil and hydrocarbon separator entirely made in polyethylene and designed for underground installation. This system is suitable for the treatment of waste waters containing oils from parking areas, mechanical workshops and petrol stations. In some particular cases it is also installed upstream of the mains sewage treatment. . . .
INSTALLATION
MAINTENANCE
80
A sand trap, which retains sand and inert material with a high specific gravity; A coalescent filter, made an oil absorbent cushion suitable for the removal of oil emulsions; An automatic closing device, which automatically closes the outlet pipe when the oil and hydrocarbons storage chamber is full to avoid the escape of such materials to the final effluent;
.
An oil and hydrocarbons storage chamber, in which separated oils and hydrocarbons are kept until removed and disposed in designated disposal areas.
EXCAVATION
Dig a hole of appropriate dimensions. The bottom of the excavation must be leveled and compacted with a 10 cm layer of fine sand (grain size 0-5 mm).
CONNECTION
Position the plant and connect the wastewater outlet pipe of the inlet of the OTTO PE. Connect the discharge pipe from the outlet of the OTTO PE to an inspection chamber.
BACKFILLING
Fill the OTTO PE with clean water before backfilling to avoid collapse of the polyethylene structure during backfilling. Once the two main compartments are full, dump sand around the tank and level it. For a walk-on solution build a 5 cm thick light concrete layer on top of the tank and finish with a 40 cm thick soil. For a drive-on solution a reinforced concrete slab is required to protect the tank. Accessible manholes are required for inspection and maintenance.
Verify that the plant is correctly installed and positioned in order to allow a regular gravity flow. Periodically get a water sample from the system outlet for analysis. Clean the sand trap regularly to ensure a steady flow in the system. Clean the coalescent filter periodically and check the level of the oil and hydrocarbons collecting tank.
