Shedesigns andsellsher own patterns.Sheandher husbandlove to travel in their RY frequentingquilt eventsand shopsas they go. Conniehasattendedtwo nationalAppliqueSocretyQuilt shows,one in Denverand the mostrecentin Tampawhereshe was a vendor. In the classwe will work on a papercut appliqueblock usingthe backbastingtechniqueConniehashad great successwith. You will choseyour block from severalof Connie'spapercut patternswhich will be availableat the meeting. The papercut desigrsvary in degreeof difficulty. In the early 70sI piecedmy fust quilt usinga borderprint purchasedfrom a fabric outletstore.It was madeof large half squaretrianglesthat weren'texactlythe samesize after cuttingandpiecing.Evenso I was proud of it. I finishd that very puffy quilt with yarn ties. I still haveit andnow useit to pad furniturewe havein storage.My workmanshipimproveda grat dealafter takingclasses from a localquilt goup. In 1984I openeda quilt andgift storein WashingtonStateanddevelopeda deepappreciation for the businesssideof quilting. I sold the storein 1990whenwe movedto lowa but continueto incorporate the lessonsI learnedinto my quilting experiences today. Thejourney of quiltmakingfeedsmy creativespirit while challengingmeto try newtechniques.It makesno differenceif I am doing it aloneor with others,it is just the act of quilting that I find comforting.I am continually inspiredby thetalentsof othersand surprisemyselfwhenI reachbeyondthat which is comfortablefor me.

SEWING FIELDS OF QUILTS SHOW WRAP UP I am so proud to be a mernberof IQG. Weput on a beautiful,friendly quilt show,full of outstandingandcozy quilts madewith a greatdeal of careand love. Onceagainour show lookedbeautiful andhada layoutthat workedwell thanksto Jo Anne ScharnandDeb Kirby. The vendorshad an abundanceof itemsto catchour interestthanksto TeresaCoenen.Martha Klatt did out' standingwork coordinatingeverythingwith the cooks, custodians,schoolofficials, PerryChief newspaper(which printedour showbooklet),andthe town of Perry. Weshouldthank JenniferPerkinsfor findingour judge ScottMurkin. He was so knowledgeable in judging, teaching and speakingabout quilting. He madea point of commentingon the nice aspectsof everyquilt hejudged, andalsogavepositiveadviceon how to improvethe maker'squilting. His senseof humorwhilejudging kept his helpersin goodspirits. JenniferPerkinsand SandiPetsche did a wonderfirljob kee,pingall the quilts and information organized.The volunteersin thejudging room learneda lot. Tricia Lenzdid a greatjob on the quilt layout.Jane Dawsonandher crew hungeachquilt andtag so that wery quilt was in its properplace andshowedto its bestadvantage. JoanGelderhelpeddesignour beautifulshowpin andmadewonderfulrosettesfor our specialawardsthat will be proudly displayedfor yearsto come.It wasso nice to sharethoughtsof Marilyn Chnistensen throughviewing the legacyof quilts sheleft behindand appreciatingthe prize moneydonatedby her family in her memory.Judy Sabbagand ArdethLaakefinishedmanyof her UFOsso theycould wrap future generationsin Marilyn's love. JanHetzelandher groupmadecutece,nterpieces for our cafe.The little barnsdisplayinga barn quilt sitting on the grwncrazy quiltedplacematsaddedto theclassof our show.SandiPasche'scutefarm itemsdecoratedthe overflowseatingandmadeit a treatto eat greatfood once againprovidedby the Gortz Hausof Grimes. Jo AnneScharnandJudySabbagdid a wonderful job as programchairscoordinatingall thevolunteer activities,lectures,and classes.Membersenjoyedthe two classestaughtby ScottMurkful andhis lectureprovided valuableinformationon quilting our quilts. CarolynMagnani'sgardentour was an absolute delightof color andscenttoppedoffby tasty desserts. DonnaLarsonandCarolyn'shusbandalso answered myriadquestionsaboutthe beautifulbloomsanddisplays. JanHetzel and her group outdidthernselvesagainmakingcupcakepincushioncenterpieces for the banquetthat lookedgood enoughto eat.Wewereall delightedto be able to take one home.The mealservedat the churchandput togetherby MarthaKlatt andKathy Safriswasdelicious.It was so niceto onceagainsit down to a mealtogethersas the Iowa QuiltersGuild. Showaffendeesappreciatedthe door prizes collectedby Deb Kirby and efficienttydistributedby Janet Lehma4 SteveandKaren Huffinan. The silent auction (organizedby JaniceParker),the fabric dive (organizedby Kathie Anderson),andthe magazinesales(organizedby VeraThomas)wereonceagainbusymoneymakers.Wilma Aldrich and her crew of mini-demos(JanetPittman" Martha Henrichs,AngelaLawrencg SharonMeisenheimer, andLynn Witzenburd instructedande,nthralledour viewerswith their varied offerings.The lecturesgrvenby JenniferPerkinsand Karen Flanschawerewell attended and informative. Our showran smogthlythanksto our volunteer coordinator,MarleneArmbrecht,andher crew of white glovedladiesand gentlemen.Deb Kirby managedthe show moneyand ribbon awardsvery efficientlyas Treasurer. Laurie Tufford andIlene Jenningswelcomedour guestsat the admissionstable and handedthemover to LoAnn Van Hemertto buy raffle tickets.I am honoredto havequilted the raffle quilt for the guild. Knowingthat our raffile quilt couldbe unofficially appraisedat $4,000mademe proud to be part of sucha beautiful quilt. LoAnn did a greatjob of coordinatingits constructionby IQG membersthat addedto its value. Thoseof us who took up the challengeto porhay our logo "in a new way" provideda nice display arranged by Marityn Cox.
